07' ford 6.0L Question

I have had my truck for 1 year now and haven't had any problems with it (knock on wood). Except, this last time i did an oil change. After driving it around i happen to notice my oil filter (cartridge) is leaking. I have replace the filter and even taken back to the ford dealer. Guess what........ It still leaks. They put a brand new filter, cap, and ring. I cant get the damn thing to stop leaking.

Has anyone had the same problem and be able to fix it.

Im taken it back to ford but there going to keep changing the filter. I hate dealing with ford service.(at least Bill Currie).

(The Story)
I took my truck to Bill Currie and tld them the situation and told him to call me before you do anything. They call me the next day and said they fixed it. I go up to the dealer to pick my truck up and the said that it was $44 for a damn oil filter and change. I said im not paying it cuz no one called me and told me that it was going to cost anything. They said well it wasnt a warranty item. I was like "NO SHIT SHIRLOCK, but no one called me to tell me it was going to cost anything. So i walked out with a free oil filter but the damn thing still fuckin leaks. /RANT

I can't say that's normal but maybe the block / oil filter mount is warped? I doubt it but could also be the canister isn't mounting correctly. Try gator ford, they actually know how to work on diesels (I've seen your dealers work and wouldn't let them work on our competitions trucks).

if you go to bill currie, go talk to dave brown. he is the service manager there. he dealt with those engines when they had all the recalls and is very versed in almost every single problem with them.

the 06'-07' they fixed the main problems they had but the oil filter is a cartridge that sits on the top of the block. the cap has a oil ring (not gasket) which i believe is whats causing the oil leak. i think its getting pinched.

We've done quite a few of the 6.0s (EGR deletes, turbo upgrades, etc)and not had that problem sorry. Maybe the plastic cap is warped, doubt the alumium housing is unless its gotta crack.

I've seen cracked caps from being over tightened, cracked housings... Most people when they do a oil change the fail to relize that the o-ring on the cap must be replaced... Sounds like you need a new cap and o-ring..

The dealer just replaced it even after i just replaced it. So 2 filters, caps, and o-rings in 1 month and still leaks. I checked aluminum housing and its fine but i still dont like that plastic caps idea and especially a o-ring setup.

now i did notice that they tighted the cap with a wrench and correct me if im wrong but it should only be snugged tight. Because if you over tight a o-ring it way cause it to pinch. Im going to replace the cap 1 more time but other than that im clueless.

They are suppose to be tight but not too tight.. I used to snug them down and them give it a 1/2 turn.. never had one leak when tighten down properly...

BMWs are this way and have been for years(possibly others). Good design, gotta be something simple or a real PITA lol.

^ got that right. i have changed filters on bmw's before. that was 5 years ago whe i "thought" i wanted to become a mechanic.

it leaks slowy, barely noticable to the dip stick but is enough to annoy the ever live crap outta me.

Oil Filter Lid Leaks:
To prevent leaks from the oil filter cover, be sure to replace the sealing o-ring when performing oil changes. Torque the cover to 18 ft/lbs. If leaks continue to occur, check the housing for burrs and the lid for damage. If using an aftermarket filter, try a factory one. Broadcast Message 3403.

understandable, i trust all data, i use to use it. well the dealer put it on last and it should be torgued to spec but on the top of the cap. You can see where they just used a bare of pliers.
