I have a 98 Passat 1.8T. Looking for a tech that knows VW's. I want to find a K04, FMIC with piping, and Boost controller. I live in Clearwater....;)

T3/T4? I know that the K04 is direct bolt on. Has anybody run the K04? Is it a waste of time?

GT28RS, do it.

vr6gti727
08-21-2008, 06:38 PM
go for the gt28rs. or if u want big power go for a t67 :D

also vdubs cant run controllers until you get your ecu chipped with the set boost pressure you wana run. because if you use just the controller your ecu will go to limp mode and you will get no boost at all.

jcarp613

How about a T3/T4? Also, in regards to the boost controller. I was talking about the one that taps into your ECU. i have a friend with a GTI that swears by it.

vr6gti727
08-21-2008, 07:15 PM
the t3/t4 is a good turbo. you would have to buy a new manifold and stuff. and deff have a fmic.

well if i were you i would just get the giac x-chip.
my friend jarrod has one and its set at 22psi all the time.
so when ever he gets into boost its 22 psi. its only like 400-500 buks.
and you wont really even need the controller after getting it chipped. your boost will be controlled by the chip.

ATP eliminator kit, everything you need to make 300+ for 2600 bucks.

DON'T REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER KKK, GO WITH A TURBO FROM GARRETT

lol thts funny

Right but that is 22psi out of a small turbo. 22 psi out of a ko3 is way different than 22psi out of a t3/t4.

ATP eliminator kit, everything you need to make 300+ for 2600 bucks.

Thinking about buying a kit from them, but it's going to be more like $5000 w/intake, exhaust, & chip. 350-400 hp + AWD = sideways fo sho. :-)

For a mild upgrade to the 1.8t, I think the are fine. I know a few people who had success with them. I am not a fan of ATP cast manifolds though.

G-Magoo
08-26-2008, 04:00 PM
Yeah I guess for something mild they are ok. But they just generate too big of a torque spike and that breaks parts.

i think imgona buy my vr6 mannifold from atp once i go turbo..

2400$ for an intake, exhaust and a chip..
thats a rip off

just build your own kit..
gt2871r is pretty nice, if u want quick spool, and a decent power gain.
or go with a 30 series, and go big...

ok. here is a better question for you..
what are u looking to spend. and what kind of power do u want??
that will really determin alot.
and help us out with answering ur question..
cause a ko4 is honestly not worth the 1k u spend on it..

And when it cracks, you'll be SOL. Get a racecraft tubular mani, it is a piece of artwork.

Not all of them crack. there are lots of companies that make decent manifolds, just not cheap.

just make sure its for a 24v. Cheap, fast, reliable. Pick 2. Just wait for Kinetics 24v Turbo kit to come out.

i thought you were an APR guy?

honestly i swear by APR they make good quality kits that can put out big power and still be driven daily...... They are a little pricey at times but you get what you pay for.

Yes, well custom VR6, he also makes 20v, 16v and 8v manifolds. I had one of his 8v intake and turbo manis, they were top notch.

Umm hate to break it to you but they dont have a 24v kit yet. I was looking at picking up Kinetics new 1.8T manifold, I just dont have the cash nor the need as of right now for a high $ equal length tubular manifold.

It isn't. Most people are VERY dissappointed after going with a K04 on any 1.8t (whether in a GTI, Jetta, A4, etc...).

G-Magoo
08-27-2008, 11:31 AM
yeah the KO4 is definitely not worth the 20hp you get.

I know turbo applications for Hondas from top to bottom. VW is a new thing for me. I want quick and dependable. I don't want to drop $2k into a Passat. Therefore boost at 3k, around 50hp extra and reasonably priced. Is there such a thing?

These guys are the best in the state. I was there last week and they just finished a passat w/a gt2871 on it. Got to their site and look at their builds:If you go visit their shop you wont want to bring your car any where else

So you want 50hp over a stock 1.8t or a chipped one?

Either way. Obviously a chipped one would be better. Mine is stock right now.

G-Magoo
08-27-2008, 12:23 PM
Well on the stock 1.8t you could do all the normal bolt-ons like a chip, turboback, turbo inlet pipe(TIP), DV, etc. and get the power increase you're looking for.

I'm at about 200-225hp now. I have upgraded the n75, dv/bov, and adjusted the oem ecu. I get full boost from 3k-4.5k, but the IC & turbo are too small to keep up for long. The car is fairly light and nimble, so it's plenty of power for tearing up the twisties.

I'd like to sustain 300-350hp from 3k+ without loss over time or initial lag. This is my DD so it has to be reliable & practical.

Money isn't an issue, but I dont want to put a ton into an 8yr old car... $5k for engine + new clutch. I'm also getting r8 rims, porche big brake kit, and possably body kit & paint. At the moment, my right hand is shattered with 7 pins in it, so fabrication isn't a real option for me.

Madness
08-28-2008, 10:52 PM
hm, well i would say a gt28rs or gt2871r would give u that power range with out worrying about lag so much.. and not having to spend alot of money to get to that power range..

G-Magoo
08-29-2008, 09:55 AM
the GT2871 would be the perfect turbo BUT he wants full boost from 3k rpm and up. Id go with the GT28rs. A little smaller. Should be able to make 300-325 on pump and around 350~ on race gas. Dont forget to do rods..

I have a slighly modified Passat. I am picking up a K04 from someone at my work for basically nothing. A Passat is sort of a waste to think of making big power. Its a heavy car and just not worth the time. I am going to have the K04, intercooler, with a manual boost controller and will be good for every day cause I know it will not be a beast but will be a good everyday car!!!
