Next R model will be powered by a 265 hp 2.0t (S3 anyone?). I wouldn't mind, as long as DSG isn't the only available transmission.
The bad news for six-cylinder Golf fans is that there are no plans to replace the current R32 version, mainly because of EU emissions legislation.
Instead, VW plans to launch a four-wheel-drive R variant with a 265bhp version of the GTI engine.

It'll probably still be around in the Passat and Touareg.

Don't be surprised, they already have a 265 2.0t, so why spend the money developing a new engine when they can use an already existing one.

Sorry, I was under the impression that one did exist. Could have sworn I read about it in Motortrend.

There was speculation about a 2.5t for the Audi TT, but that hasn't happened.

The 2.0T (265hp) that comes in it is a good motor to start with. Chip and exhaust has netted around 320hp and 310ft.lbs. of torque.

I think he was thinking of the TT-RS that was rumored to get a 2.5T making about 330 horse. It is more than likely getting the supercharged 3 liter V6.
Audi's Even Hotter TT - Auto News - Motor Trend (http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto_news/2008/112_0806_audi_ttrs/index.html)
Also of note is that the 2.0t in the S3/TTS is not the same as the base model 2.0t. It has stronger internals to accommodate the higher output.

Thats exactly what I was thinking about, regardless it will be cool to have an R that will be easy to coax extra power out of.
