you could have just gotten it powdercoated...

i used caliper paint on mine as a base coat, then hit it with engine bay paint. mine had slight flaking after roughly 12k miles. but it looks good, hope it works out for you.

Whats the point in powdercoating ? im cheap and like to do my own work. And yes i know the pros of powdercoating.
