View Full Version : So riddle me this..
the US drives about 5 BILLION miles a day.
we average 20.2 MPG
we have $4 a gallon gas.
increasing that average MPG to 25, can sabe $188 Million dollars, a day. To be spent on other things.
What impact to the US economy would that have you think ?
$188 million a day LESS on gas.

Thats $1.50 per person / day. I dont know about you, but i'd probably use that $1.50 to pay off the interest for that day, for the new car I just bought to get that 25mpg that saved me $1.50.

I don't even need the numbers to be that big, We just upped ours from 17ish in a durango to mid 40's in a jetta tdi, how much am I saving on gas? The difference is enough to pay the note on the durango, so I didn't even try to trade it in.

Mor eimportantly, how much of that money is going OUT of the US and becomes part of the trade deficit.

I don't, so now my truck costs me 350 a year, I can live with that.

i did the same thing. my dakota 4.7 4x4 quad cab was getting 12mpg so i bought a 400 dollar 1995 4 door sohc saturn getting 30+mpg. rebuilt the engine (because it smoked alot!!!) for 300 dollars and now i am saving 200+ dollars a month on gas. i do however pay 80 dollars more a month for insurance. but hey it pays for itself. not bad for a 700 dollar investment and i kept my truck to pull my race car.
