I paid 500.00 cash. I found it on craiglist... thought it was a roller until I got there. I am going to re-wire the car. There is complete Chaos under the dash from wiring up the fan, the fuel pump and god knows whatever. only the fulel guage is working right now. gonna pull the dash and put in Autometer guages. Going to leave this one an auto until when or even if I roast the c6 and stick in a glide, its not going to see much street use. It has a stall converter in it as as best I can tell its around a 3000 give or take. Its in really good shape, just needs some odds and ends stuff. Like bolts for the pass side sway bar where it mounts to the frame and some equal length shorties has new xpipe and mufflers. The electric fans aren't working so i'm gonig to slap a flex fan on it until I can get a 3g swap on it. It does have a posi rear end.... the evidence is two long lines down my street in front of the old lady's house that hates me already.
Shaun I did tell her almost those exact words. She went for a ride with me once when I had my black lx 393 stroker.... that was the last time she will ever ride with me in a mustang :lol:

some set backs with the rocker install, ive cracked 4 pedestals for some unkn reason. Manufacturer defect?? Summit never heard of it and all I did was do a mock up and torque them down and they cracked. Summit send me a whole nother roller rocker kit to swap out parts. Im going to yank all of them and start over.

well funny you should ask Shaun. I put in all of the new pedestals, got everything right. Fired it up and all I hear is clanking metal, crunching noises and then a really high pitched screeching. I shut it down and just closed the damn hood, and went inside.
Today I pulled the intake and valve covers. All of my hyd. lifters are locked at the bottom like they are all colapsed. Pushrods are fine and not bent. All of the rockers are still torqued @ 20 lbs. I look down into the oil galley and see the cam which is allllllll fucked up. I used a shit load or Red Line Assembly lube on everything, filled the pushrods with oil. I yanked off the header and got the block number. F4t3... roller block.... yanked out the cam...... fucking roller cam. I pulled out Hyd lifters when I replaced them, no dog bones or link bars. No wonder why it had issues before I took it apart. went online and found the cam, its a lunati roller cam. The guy that put the cam in used a roller cam with hyd lifters........ now its a FUBAR cam in a FUBAR block. I will yank the heads tomorrow to see how bad the pistons and valves are.
I know the 351w roller blocks aren't really roller blocks..... someone should have told this guy. What a waste of money. Now she will sit until my other motor is done and that won't be for a loooooooong ass time.

They used flat tappet lifters on a roller cam? That really sucks arse!! Whats wrong with the block?

Yeah I didn't even think it would run that way.
No I am going to keep it. It will make a nice roller block. I may end up using this block for my engine build and fine another stock 351w in the meantime.

Jason bro this sucks! I have lifters and other things laying around i'll give you if it will get your car back on the road. I think i even have a cam.

Don't know man...... the lifters are all collapsed from the pushrods being too long and the valves im sure hit the pistons for this to happen. I think they just stuck in a ford cam not knowing? It had stock stamped rockers and stock pushrods.
Thanks Shaun. I am going to pull the heads tomorrow to see the damage, I may even pull a few valves and check them. I have a sick feeling they got together from the noise it made.

Damn bro, sorry to hear this. If nothing else, it's a hard-learned lesson man. Gotta find some sort of silver lining in these kinds of situations! I've had to find many :crack: But it's always better to check, double check, and triple check when going on other peoples word ya know.

I read through the thread, and have a question.
You pulled out the old lifters, and put new back in. Why and were they the same kind? What about the push rods, same length?

Pulled hyd lifters out of it and checked the rod length before I puth the new ones in. Its a mystery to me too guys. It had alot of chatter in the valvetrain but nothing serious, it did feel very underpowered for even a stock 351w driving it home that night from seffner. Ive gotten alot of PM's from you guys and I just want to say thanks for the support and offers of parts to fix my issue. I will know the real damage this afternoon when I yank the heads. Worst case if they are trashed its no real loss. I was going to put AFR's on the stroker I was going to build anyway.

Kind of an update. Through my contacts at work I am going to acquire another 03/04 cobra motor & T56 or a Lightning motor. Still on the fence on how I am going to go with the car.

I had a 04 cobra motor w/T56 few months back but no car to put it in and I ended up selling it. I bet its a pain in the ass to wire up in my 85.

Caspers or any one make a plug and play harness? just a thought. Gnracer2 bought on from them to put a GN turbo motor in a Fox. Very high quality everyplug was labels, very nice harness.

I will keep that in mind. The new issue of 5.0 has a fox body with a GT500 swap in it, they are doing a step by step build on it. I really want to do something different for a power plant this time around. I have been building pushrod motors since I was old enough to hold a wrench and help my dad out on his 69 Mach 1 Cobra. I have built up every pushrod v8 motor ford has made from a screaming 289 to a 521 stroker. I thought about an FE, but parts are kinda up there in price. I am undecided at this point whether to stick with a pushrod stroker beast or drop in a 4.6 cobra or 5.4 lightning/harley motor. I laid out the cost of my last motor vs the cost of a cobra or lightning motor & tranny combo out of a salvage and its pretty close in price. I have time to decide. When I get my income tax and bonus in Feb that is when the madness will commence.
I can pick up a 4.6 cobra 03/04 or 5.4 lightning motor for about 4-5k with everything including the T56, basically the whole salvaged cobra car minus interior, rims, doors, hood.
The last 393 stroker & TKO 600 build I did was about 6k.
Math is in favor of a cobra or lightning motor so far.
