Alright, well, I know I'm probably going to get beat up for this but...who cares right. Below are the before and after pics of my car. The before pics are of the stock Chargespeed front bumper as it came from the factory. I liked it but hated the fact that I could see the intercooler piping and subframe assy thru the holes. Although you cant see it in the pic it was very obvious when looking at it in person.

The after pic is how it looks today. I just picked it up from the body shop. I took my car in for some A/C work and the shop wrecked my car and messed up the bumper pretty badly. Since the bumper needed to be fixed I went ahead and had them fill in the holes that were bothering me. I plan to possibly put a license plate frame on one side and maybe an STi sticker on the other. Or, maybe I'll install an intake inlet on one side. Who knows.

What do you think?

BTW, the job the body shop did is unbelievable. NO ONE could ever tell it didnt come like that stock. AMAZING. Big props to the guys at Jims Body Shop in Seminole. They also repainted my rear bumper, took out a few dents and rolled my rear fenders...all of it is done perfectly. I'm completely impressed.

do the carbon fiber inlets! that looks sick. you could put them to your intake, but if it were me, id make them brake ducts. but my guess is you dont really need much brake cooling.

had to get rid of the open trunk in the back, sorry :P

That was his wing, not an open trunk dang it!

Work looks great but the closed area looks a little too big for me. But the Sti decals make it look VERY good. :)

And it's nice to hear of someone not only doing their job for once, but doing it way beyond the customer's expectation. :)

Thanks I think :) I definitely dont think it looks rice, but I appreciate your opinion. It's growin on me. I hated being able to see the intercooler piping, it looked GHEY.

Racer X, thanks for the edits. That's nice work.

Chuck, I waived at ya man, but I obviously you didnt see me.

As Jerremy Clarkson from Top Gear would say:

"You have just given it the aerodynamics of a wall!!!"

I just say looks like a Scion XB bumper now but, whatever floats your boat!

racer_x

you think that the large "intake" holes were aerodynamically more efficient than the smooth profile he currently has? I'd say it's just the opposite-- plus, you'd be amazed at how aerodynamically efficient a flat face is on a vehicle...

Leonardo
07-03-2008, 07:02 PM
Yes, I see where < would be more efficient than l. Brilliant!!!!

At least the air went in and out, not smacked the front of the car like now. He just did it (covered the holes) because he didn't like what he saw in it and the body shop had to repair their mistake so they coincided in closing them.

To start, that bumper isn't aerodynamic at all. That is what the STi in that model years needed a taller scoop just like the 04-05. When they made a lower, sharper profile in the 06-07 it got away with the shorter scoop like the WRX. Why? Because the nose wasn't as flat directing air ABOVE the car away from the hood scoop (hence taller and towards the front,to grab more from the air stream) as opposed to the newer style. If you noticed in the 04-05, even when in the 2.5i didn't have fogs they had a mesh to have air flow in and out as well as the Fog covers on your car aren't sealed, they have a gap or "intake". Even the 02-03 fog covers didn't seal all the way. I'm pretty sure I could go on and on but I would have to draw you a diagram or something! :p

I have been with Subaru since 1999 and have gone through 6 different models because each is unique so I think I kinda know my shit.

As I said above, Not my taste but hey, whatever!

whether you've had 6 subarus or just 3 like me....

The pocket in the front of the original bumper trapped the air, it did not vent it.

Now, I am no aerodynamicist, but I think that unless there was some sort of vortex created by the old air dam (which I do not believe to be the basis of your opinion/argument), the air will pass with less abrasion around the new bumper.

did you ever think to get foglights?

im2wrxy
07-03-2008, 09:16 PM
did you ever think to get foglights?

Yes but stock Suby fogs won't fit in the chargespeed bumper. I could get after market fogs but would have to do some more body work to make them look right.

There will be something in those spots but just dpnt know what.yet.

Not sure where you live. But if you need custom STi vinyl made for the front let me know. I have a Vinyl cutter and a lot of colors to choose.

Craig, looks good and def not rice. Especialy with all the go parts that went in. Just curious, did retorquing the knock sensor do the trick?

Thought so but it kicked back on yesterday, again at idle. I was stuck at a rail road crossing just idling and it popped on.

craig, you've done a compression test and whatnot, right? What's your setup??

im2wrxy
07-08-2008, 01:40 PM
Yea compression test was done. I have a 2.5 hybrid; pinks, Walbro, crank pulley, lightened flywheel, 18g, FMIC, Gimmic inlet, TBE, Up pipe

i assume injectors are matched, MAF has been cleaned, plugs are gapped around .28, coils have been checked, etc... what's the code that you're throwing?

SnowMann
07-08-2008, 02:28 PM
The combo of the lightened flywheel/crank pulley might be too much for it to overcome.

Im afraid to ask what you got because i heard through the crap vine its a scion???

Injectors are matched. I havent cleaned the MAF in a couple months but it didnt fix the problem then. The plugs are not gapped at .028 right now. I have them really high (.045) because before I just got retuned it ran better that way. I have new plugs gapped to .026 just havent had a chance to put them in yet. All coils have been checked several times.

I'm getting misfires in all cylinders. At least that's what I was getting before Jeff retuned me a couple weeks ago. I havent checked it this time. I will do it on the way home tonight. I definitely had the knock sensor over torqued. I just retorqued that a couple weeks ago and the light hadnt come back on until now. I may have damaged it.

Check engine lights don't necessarily mean something is wrong, just that your motor is better than everyone else's. ;)
