im looking for a reputable shop to fix my tranny... a few people have suggested that i most likely have a blown 5th gear synchro or a shift fork...
im going to pull the tranny and deliver it myself to try and cut down on labor costs, but i'd be willing to bring it to tampa if someone knows a good shop that knows what they are doing with an STi tranny.

^ If Mastro is too expensive you can call BVP. Alan got his 6 speed rebuilt by BVP and he loves it.....no problems. Call the shop and talk to Rob, tell him I sent you

was at BMP a few weeks ago, went to 6500rpms in 4th... pushed clutch in and pushed into 5th kinda hard and "pop" it almost felt like the shift linkage broke. never even let the clutch back out.
got out of the car thinking holy shit i just popped my tranny and then had an idea that it might have been the bolt that holds the shift linkage to the tranny. jacked it up and everything is connected.. got back in the car and screwed with the shifter to see how it felt, had no gear pattern. moved the shifter all the way to the left and down and i think i somehow popped it into what felt like 4th and limped the 2 miles back to me house into the garage.
from what i hear the 5th gear sync on the STi has had a history of problems.

i thought if a syncro went in one gear you can still use all of the others?

well, if thats the case then its definatly not my synchro lol. cuz i cant ever get into reverse or neutral to get my car out of the garage... had to have the wifey hold the clutch while i pushed it out. it is absolutely stuck in 4th now ever since i popped it in.

maybe some tranny knowledgeable people can chime in and help me form a diagnosis... its obviously something inside the tranny, i popped it with absolutely no help from engine torque, and now im stuck in 4th. im sure theres only a few things it could be... homemade? somebody?

If it was a synchro it would grind whenever you try to put it into that specific gear. All other gears would be fine. Also, another way you can determine it is a syncro is to double clutch the gear that grinds, when you double clutch it basically does what the syncro would be doing and will asllow the gear to go in without grinding. Sounds like maybe the fork.

no ryan, have been uber busy with life lately and just threw this up real quick... i called Mastro.. they said they charge around like $300 to inspect the tranny and the part thats broken could be anywhere from 1k to 3k to fix. ouch. Called BVP for a quote around 11am and nobody returned my phone call/message all day... im not looking to get started with a business that cant return phone calls, been there too many times. also left Mranlet from s&r a PM on here but havnt heard from him either.
it seems like i could almost buy another tranny off nasioc for what this looks like it'll cost in parts and labor. :|

i dont think anything "bent" lol... i felt a pop that felt and sounded like something snapped... there is no sound of metal moving around in the tranny or anything 4th works like a charm but like i said, my shifter is useless... theres nothing there, lol.
im going to try to explain this so that everyone can understand and get a better idea of what exactly happened....
....your in 4th gear, you push the clutch in and move the shift lever up, right, then up into 5th.... now your all the way in 5th gear and you have pressure against the top right of the 5th gear from shifting fast... then you feel a pop and the shifter goes all the way to the top right corner of the shifter trim... all while still holding the clutch down.
that is exactly what happened.

Sent you a PM.
