This is the first time shooting a car with this camera.. And I'm not too happy with the way they came out. The quality just that great in my opinion, and a couple of them look a bit grainy. These were shot it auto mode, and it was cloudy out. It just started to rain near the end of the shoot.
What can I do differently next time?

As far as "what I would do." IMO: I would pick a different location and lay off of the contrast a little but over-all, they look good!

shots look pretty good for the 1st time around, once you learn about shutter speed, fstops, iso, and all the fun you'll be amazed what slr's can do
what camera/lens?
yakosato - you loose photo quality in bucket and it seems to add noise

Pics look great for the first time. I like the contrast, but it's a tradeoff with detail in the blacks.
Good work here - to improve I would come off of the contrast and saturation just a bit and locate some less-busy backgrounds.
Two tips to improve quality of images hosted & reduced for TR:
1. Sharpen your image dead last, even after size reduction (remember to sharpen responsibly)
2. use Flickr instead of Photobucket, see below.
The first image is through Flickr, second is through Photobucket...

Thanks guys.. As for the location it was a spur of the moment thing. It was getting ready to rain so we just picked a spot that we were close to.
For those that asked about the camera, it's a Nikon D40x and I used my Nikkor 18-55mm lense.
I just made a Flickr account the other day but I used PB for these because I don't wanna use my "monthly limit" of upload space.. until I upgrade to a pro account.
And maybe I'm seeing things but I thought I saw some grain/noise on the pics next to the bus.. Maybe not :dunno:

I think they look fine! Nice work man

Flickr will let you upload 100mb a month with a free account. At 500k, that's 200 pictures... don't worry about the limit unless you try uploading full size images (don't.).

No one answered your question lol
As far as what you could do for next time: shoot in Aperture Priority or Program mode. They are very simple and still give you a good amount of control over some settings. Really all you need to do it make sure the iso is at 200 (during the day but at night make sure you have the tripod) and make sure the aperture (the number with the f next to it) is as small of a number as it will go at that focal length. Dont shoot in auto anymore :D

I agree with everything you said except this last part. That's going to give you the smallest depth of field that you can get - but you're shooting a pretty big subject. I usually stay as close to F8 as I can without getting soft photos. During the day you can usually shoot at F8 with no issues.

And as an end resort...You can always throw some editing in there. A program called Adobe Lightroom is a good one. Its made by the same people as photoshop and is strictly for editing the settings of a photo. Some people are against editing but you must realize that almost all big name photographers will do it to an extent. But defiantly get to know your camera before you start editing. Because when you love what comes out of your camera without it, then you go in and tweak some things, stuff turns out awesome.

Editing is a requirement these days. If you look at my sig, the left one is an HDR, the middle one had a line of white paint splatter that someone spilled as they were driving down the road, and the right one had a shadow under the mirror, it had mixed lighting so I had to open the raw file twice with different white balance settings and merge them, and there were all kinds of headlight reflections from cars driving around.
I think kaluwa already has that down though, because as someone else said he's got quite a lot of contrast and saturation.

Yeah I know, but I started out that way. I was just saying...
