I just picked up my D40x about an hour ago and took some pics with it. This is my first time ever using a SLR so go easy on me. I just snapped a few around my house. I'll hopefully have more pics tomorrow. These were all done in AUTO, becuase I have no idea what I'm doing with manual settings.
What do you think?

Damn, that's almost worse than your car being stolen because the car's insured. Do you have any type of insurance to cover the stolen stuff?
That really sucks. :(

Yo Home Skillet! ~> As I told you through PM's... I'll tell you the truth!:D
I know youre just starting out but One thing I noticed is that some of your pictures are not in focus... I dont know what the view finder looks like on a Nikon (b/c we all know Nikon's suck and I WONT ever use one :P) but try to use the focusing points through the view finder (if Nikon's have them?)
Over all... They're good pictures for your 1st time shooting w/ your new toy!!!
Pic 1. Snail: The body is in focus but the face/ head isnt? I would think thats a little more important... ~> Just back off a little and allow the full item to be in focus, then crop from the original size (if thats what youre looking for...)
Pic 2. Bird: Good Shot!
Pic 3. Red Flower: Not Centered/ Cropped the lower part of the flower out. Good shot over-all!
Pic 4. Purple Flower: Good Shot!
Pic 5. Black Dog: Good Shot!
Pic 6. Black/ White Dog: I would have tried to get the rest of his ear in the picture rather than his blurred body...
Pic 7. Park Bench: Good Shot...
Pic 8. Swings: Uh Oh ... The Foreground is in focus rather than the actual swings...
Pic 9. Playground: Ehh... Its just a whatever shot... Nothing to exciting .
Pic 10. Weed: Good Shot!
Pic 11. Meeter: Center it... ~> Over all its a good picture!
Pic 12. Lizard: His head isnt in focus :(...
Pic 13. Weed: Add a little more contrast... Its hard to tell the definition in that particular weed.
Pic 14. Caterpillar: You cropped him out :(.
Pic 15. Caterpillar: His heads out of focus.
Pic 16. Crazy Flower: Center it but EXCELLENT SHOT! You can see a lot of detail and the color is .
:bigthumb: to you again and keep practicing!!!

Damn, Adam. That sucks. :( Where was this at?
Chris, thanks for the pointers. I have to work on the focus a little bit more. I need to get familiar with the manual settings too. ISO, Aperature, and all the other shit. lol. I tried some pics last night messing with the ISO but they came out really grainy.
nah someone broke into my car and took stupid shit since they couldnt get the stereo stuff.. one of the items was my camera :( :tear:
My condolences!

Of course "in a non-gay way!" :D... ~> The way I look at it is that if we dont give each-other "constructive criticism" or teach each-other, non of us will grow as photographers!
