My brother has a 2nd gen RX-7 and when he starts the car the idle revs go up and down from 1000 to 2500 rpm's and does not stop even after it warms up. We don't really know where to start. I am not too familiar with rotory engines so i need some direction. Thanks in advance.

Wow. I read through what you posted and i am definately not the only one with this problem. I will go through the motions that were mentioned and will see what happens. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!

Alright this could be a few different things.
-Map sensor vacuum hose fell off. <--- very common
-Vacuum Leak
-Timing issue
-blown apex seal. (the reason could be this is because one blown seal means only 1/3 of the rotor sides can still make a seal for compression and is causing the to keep a bouncing idle to keep from driving.
I would not drive the car at all because if it is a broken apex you might destroy the housing if it isn't eaten up already. Get a compression check if it's not a vacuum leak or tuning issue.

def got to start with the basics b4 u jump to conclusions like a blown apex !!
hell, i remember doing the TB MOD a while back and it cured my high lopey idle that i was having. prolly just something basic, just have to weed it out. if n e thing and u can't find out what's wrong just take it to Jeff @ maztech.

I will be taking a look at the engine this weekend. My brother lives in Orlando. I hope it is something simple. y brother has been driving it like that for a while. He had only told me a bout the problem recently. If for some reason it is a seal then his motor housing has got to be cpmpletely ruined. We will see.

It could be other things too, check spark plugs and wires and ignition system because you may need to just replace your plugs. I know I had that issue one time and I just had to replace the spark plugs because they had fouled out.

That is true. I think it has been a while since we changed his spark plugs. My brother just graduated too. It would be good to get him some upgraded spark plug wires. Any suggestions on some good brands/ prices?

NGK plugs and wires are excellent and not that expensive. never go autolite or n e auto parts' brands.

I don't know where that is. Where would I find it and what does it look like?
