Cool Got Bored So I Paint Valve Covers... *Tips & Pictures*

Anyone else do this when they're bored and can't work on their car?

Here's a few tricks I've taught myself and YES I do this all in my apartment kitchen because I already know I'm not going to be getting my deposit back.

I use aircraft stripper to remove the original paint from the valve cover (wear gloves, it does burn!).

Polish the letters and whatever else you want shiny before you paint.

I use Pam (the non-stick cooking spray) on the letters. Just spray some on a rag, rub a little on the areas you don't want paint and you're set.

Do a couple coats of high temp primer paint. After that rub the places you didn't want paint with a rag to remove the Pam. Then put another coat of Pam on those areas.

Do a couple coats of the color of your choice. Preheat the oven to 350* and put the valve cover in the oven 15minutes after the last coat of paint. Leave the valve cover in there for 10minutes. It'll come out shiny.

The pictures don't really do it justice, but this is how I ghetto powder coat stuff.

If anyone wants one of these two they're $40.00 shipped.

Everytime I've sanded the letters by hand I've always ended up hitting the actual valve cover and messing up the paint. So that's why I do it this way... You guys can do it however you want.

Thanks man. I was expecting some flaming, but I'm sure I just spoke too early.
