:lmao:
I had just over 450 hp in my '03 Cobra, and I loved it. I wanted more, of course. But it was impressive to me :dunno:
I'd say any REAL street car, daily driver type, that does 10's or 11's is respectable to me. For race cars, I'd expect to see deep 10's and single digit times.
HP numbers. I'd love to see 700hp on a vehicle of mine someday :yikes:
i didnt say my car dosent feel fast off the 2 step . and my car dose make over 600whp on the bottle , but thats the norm to me .

Anything with regular radials that has over 300 hp is USELESS on the street unless you put some decent sticky tires on it.
With that being said, Over 450 is a lot to me.

depends on the car. A heavy car eats alot. I think 400 is about where drivability starts going away quickly. (>3000 lb cars especially)

I think 350 and up is fun on the road. But not this much fun

i don't see much loss of drivability in my car. i drove my mustang to work yesterday (damn i love that little bitch!) and would do it every day of the week if gas wasn't so stupid. 700 rwtq can be a little more fun than you asked for, but knowing how to throttle her goes a long way in making sure she stays straight. :]

Depends. 600 is a lot for a daily driver, but 600 ain't shit for a heads up car. 2000 is a lot for a heads up door car, but ain't shit for a fuel car. :P

Power to weight ratio has a large part to do with it. in my mind..
That being said, a 2 to 1 ratio is a huge power to weight ratio... I.e 3000 lb car = 1500 hp... or 4000 lb car = 2000 hp...
But for a D/D more like 7 to 1... I.e. 3500 Lb car = 500 hp.. 4200 lb car = 600 hp...
My 2¢...

god you guys lol... my supercoupe had 240hp 335tq and i thought my car hauled ass, oh well...
My Vette put 352 to the wheels....it's more than enough for a street car...and if I stay out of the pedal it gets 24 mpg.

HP wise for a street car, 750+.
However, I am more impressed with E.T.'s vs HP.
HP is just a braggin' right IMO.

Agreed! My Pinto was 2450 lbs. with me in it. With a little under 300 hp it was a ton of fun.
Going with less weight makes everything easier.

I would say it is all what you are in.
I have rode in several "fast" cars and have noticed that:
alot of well built semi heavy cars (especially sn 95 platform mustangs) never seem to "feel" fast - not in relation to how fast they really are -
my old stang was just as fast as an old feinds little maverick with a 302 in it - yet if you rode in that car it felt like you were flying, it pulled like it had 800 hp - even though it wasn't that fast it still is one of the fastest "feeling" cars i have ever been in. even though i have been in cars that are twice as fast. I have also rode in a shelby cobra that felt like you were going 90 when you were going 30. and if you jump on a motorcycle any speed feels fast compared to a car.
so i would say what is alot of power and what is fast are two very different things.
to me i guess alot of power on the street would be 300&up rwhp and up, in a well geared / non boat of a car.
I also leaned today that everyone on here has a 500+ HP car -

i would say 400 to the wheels and up is alot to me. but this is coming from a 17 y/o whos faster car he has driven being a 427rwhp 2003 cobra; and i didnt even get to give it any throttle. my fox probably only makes like 250rw, buts its light and geared so its fun to me. still want more out of it though - thats what the nitrous is for this summer.

A bone stock SN95 with a good 215 to the crank is what it's all about, but only if that shits got a 5.0, modulars don't count.....
Back to the real world, just considering how easy it is to make mid 4's it can be slightly suprising to find at times but just sort of in that basic setup realm. From there on up the more and more suprised you'll be when you find out the numbers people put down, especially those ones that truely are street driven with not so much the intint of going out every week and running.
Granted this is a bad example because it makes way more then the average car you would declare fast, but DaTruth's Vette is one of those deals where your first perception would be that it rides but you'd be shocked to find out how bad that bitch really is. In my mind that's usually where i'm most impressed cause some cars are more race oriented to the point you could be dissapointed by there numbers just on the extint they've gone.

I will go with 500+ is a handful. Then there is TQ, get over 600+ and shit is hard to keep pointed straight.
But it also about where the power comes in and how long it holds it. 500 hp for a few hundred rpm's is one thing for several thousand rpm's is another.

Who cares about hp.... put the power you got to the ground. So many high hp cars always have big #'s but can't put it to the pavement.
With that said my ultimate rwhp goal is low. 600rwhp and a sub 3000lb car will be fine with me. -Mark

It's easy to overlook TQ when you're discussing what is and is not powerful. Having 500HP and 460FT.LBS is alot different than trying to control a car with 500HP and 750FT.LBS.
I don't think that most people have ever really felt that kind of chest compressing TQ in a street car, and would realize how hard it is to handle a car like that if they ever had the chance.

i don't understand. my car has over 700rwtq and i don't have any problems driving her 60 miles to work. i get a lil nervous on wet roads, but i have done it and it is totally do-able if driven properly.
to me, just about any amount of power/torque is streetable as long as the car itself runs and drives like a street car and the driver has a small amount of self-control.
it's not so much about the power as it is about the driver controlling the power.

I wasn't referring to part throttle driving. Hell, I drive mine to work every day as well. I was replying to the first post about how much power is respectable on the street. Everybody likes to claim how fast their car is and give out numbers, but a 300-400RWHP is alot stronger than what the average person thinks.

im knocking on 700 and my car was a street car before i bought it. I was registered , insured with plates and all. hell the guy drove it across queens to meet me when i came down with the trailer. To me its ok. Since its in a heavy car and has shit for gear (3.70) its not real impressive. Now if you took my drivetrain and put it in a foxbody with 4.56s it would be an evil monster so power is all relative to how its used and what its used in.
I would say 1000 hp and up is making monster power.
600+ is definatly no slouch.
450-500 in a true street car that drives all over hell and back is a killer
400-425 is very stout and respectable for a street car
