I am a new user, and I have searched all the forums I can handle. I have dubbed this the most knowledgeable forum I have come across and decided to post here. I have a 92 Celica GT Coupe, I removed the motor and tranny and purchased a 3sfe. They both sit in my front yard now. I dont want them in my car. I have heard everyone pity pat over, "yes build a 5SFE, No 5SFE Cant perform reliably." I am Interested in real opinions with pricing and such, I am savy to automobile work and plan to do the work myself. I have no issues with money, but wont spend irresponsibly. I Need to know "3SGtE" "5SFE" "2JZ" Anyone with experience with these motors and resources for parts. I am looking to build this car into a street car, Dont need to be the fastest, but I have a S14 SR20DET and That is plenty for me at this time. So Leave me some comments if you would. Plz, Dont just say "3SGTE" , I want to know why. Thank You.
P.S. If I went with the 5SFE, Thoughts on TRD Supercharger. :)

There is not alot of performance parts for a 5sfe or 3sfe due to the f in the engine code stands for economy head. You want something with ge. Sport head of better flow. Now A lot of people say 5s dont hold up to high rpms. Dont know how tru that is. Trd never made asupercharger for 5s to my knowledge. Now with some minor modifcations you can put a 3sge or gte head on a 5s block. Can fild a write up on celica tech. 3SGTE in a good swap but you said that you have a 240 with an sr. Lots of info on celicatech.com for this but its not cheap. Now for the 2j. That is a straight 6 cyl. And is for rear wheel drive. Major body mods for that. Hope that helps.

but back to the subject at hand...have you ever heard of a beams?if money is no object get a beams and use the 88ish v6 camry tranny and axles...i think they put a beams in a fwd/awd car, caldina or maybe an alltrac or both...so the wiring harness would work.linky to beams... They dont make a TRD SC for a 5sfe... I think rippmods had a SC. I know the 1MZ had a TRD SC but are discontinued and hard to find.

I was thinking about that beams motor. But I have something else up my sleeve.

The 5 Head Gasket went, I also have a complete 3Sfe crate from japan, both of which I have no use for anymore

If you're not looking for money and you already have a sr20, just put the 3sfe or the 5sfe back in. Enjoy the good fuel economy. If you really want performance out of the car, 3sgte is going to be the only way. Screw the beams motor, wiring graphs are in Japanese and Parts are impossible to find. You'll spend more going N/A with the beams engine and you won't get as much power with the Beams.
