Does anyone feel they have a hard time finding what they are looking for on here. I do. We, as users, need to be able to find things by the category of merchandise rather than all lumped together. So I'm proposing the following changes to better organize everything. We move everything into the following top level Classifies are that is grouped on the forums home page here:
http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/

TR Classifieds

Private 'For Sale' Classifieds
The Private 'For Sale' Classifieds forums are for the sale of anything owned by private owners only, no vendors allowed. NO GROUP BUYS!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Private 'Wanted' Classifieds
The Private 'Wanted' Classifieds forum on NASIOC is where you can post about something you are looking to buy from either a vendor or a private owner.

Private Car 'For Sale' Classifieds
The Private Car 'For Sale' Classifieds forum is for any cars "For Sale" by private owner, no dealer posts allowed!!

Vendor 'For Sale' Classifieds
The Vendor 'For Sale' Classifieds forum is for registered vendors to sell "IN-STOCK" items only. NO GROUP BUYS!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
(more specific forums inside)

Vendor 'Group Buy' Classifieds
This should be obvious.
All sub Forums would include the following:

Engine/Power/Exhaust
(turbo, exhaust, chips, ecu, etc...)

Suspension/Brakes/Handling
(sway and strut bars, rotors, pads, anti lift kits, end links, etc...)

Drivetrain
(clutches, gears, diferentials, etc...)

Wheels/Tires
(wheels, tires, locks, lugs, etc...)

Exterior/Styling
(lips, spoilers, grills, headlights, tail lights, etc...)

Interior/Dressup/Audio & Security
(steering wheels, carpet, mats, compass mirrors, speakers, etc...)

Accessories & Misc
(hats, tshirts, models, etc...)

Private Classifieds could also include the following Sub Forum

Scammer Central
The Scammer Central forum will store all scam related threads/sales and they will be moved into this forum by the moderators. Editing posts in this forum is not allowed so we can preserve original post content.

Complete Car Part-Out
Wreck/Salvage part-out ONLY! Not for return-to-stock!
The Vendor 'For Sale' Classifieds would then have all of the threads from the vendors broken down by category/topic and moved into sub forums by topic as stated above with the additioin of:

Car Care & Detailing
(car care products, engine/fuel additives and lubricants, etc...)

Services
(port-polish, powdercoat, jethot, etc...)

Vehicle Sales
(vehicle sales, stock or modified from dealers or vendors) What do you think? Discuss.

yeah, and we could change the name of our forum to Nasioc.com...

i like the idea but i think a direct copy of Nasioc's classifieds is a little much... basic catagorizing would definatly help though.

mostly direct copy of NASIOC, but 99% of automotive forums on the web have the same type of classifieds. good idea man

I do have a little suggestion.

I recommend that TR charges to have a forum in the shop forum sections and advertise on TR

IMO that will weed out the real shops against the bull shit shops. Please other shops dont get all pissy its a general statement not directed to anyone personal.

No dont get me wrong TR has been a great place for me to bring in business and I really appreciate the fact that they let me advertise for free and I seriously cant thank TR enough for that.

But you go into the shop forum and these is now a total of 40+ shops and you look alot of them have absolutly no activity in them. So how does a shop like mine really stand out in there? I think making shops pay to advertise will really clean things up in there and show customers which shops are serious shops and which are fly by night places. The fly by night places arent going to make the investment to advertise most likely. And its worth every pennny. Lets say you charge 300.00 a year to advertise and have a forum. All it takes is 1 good job from the website and boom advertising is paid for a whole year. Then in turn it brings more attention to my shop becaue instead of having 40+ shops you now my only have maybe a total of 10 shop who are willing to advertise. The shops who pay will get more traffic.

Just my .02 cents

Take the income from the sponsorship money and put on events like track days and what not.

If TR ever charged to advertise you can sign me up!

Again this post is not directed towards anyone inparticular. So please dont take it out of context.

+1

It is MOSTLY a copy but I'm on dozens of forums and they all do it like this in one way or another. I just used NASIOC as the basis for laying down the groundwork here. And why not, it's an information architecture that works well for 1,829,310 users. Too many people waste too much time trying to do things differently for the sake of being different without the change adding any value. The admins can feel free to rename things as they see fit but if it isn't broke why fix it.

So, if anyone has anything to contribute regarding a different way to categorize these feel free to post up.

I'm amazed that a vendor recommended this but I agree with you. It would be beneficial. I'm also amazed the TR doesn't charge.

Thanks for the suggestion.

lol

I know thats probably a big surprise.

Like I said I cant thank TR enough for letting us advertise for free. But making shops man up and pay for advertising would actually benefit that particular shop. Like I said instead of having 40+ shops in the shop forum you now may only have 10 or so willing to pay. And in turn that brings more traffic to my place.

I pay to advertise over on Mafia Motorsports and it helps being that there are only 5 other shops who pay to advertise. Kinda gives you a captive audience.

I honestly think it would help show customers what shops take this business serious. IMO any serious shops either being a well established shop or a new shop on the block if they really wanted to reach out to the customer they would pay to advertise.

Like I have been told and totally agree with one of the best things a shop can do with excess money is to pay to put some advertising out there. Its a tough bullet to bite but in the long run it will pay off.

One major issue with what you have there is people are stupid, they put stuff where ever they want and it's a fulltime job for mods to move it around.

We have some changes coming for the classifieds section though that will definately help with what your frustrated with .. and will be similar to what your proposing but not having to rely on someone putting it in the right place.

the shop forums is more of a shop registry than anything else and we dont charge for that basic function.

however, any shop really wanting to get noticed would be running banners on the site, and or sponsoring a forum, both of which we charge for. Anyone wanting more details on either of these options can PM me.

We do have an admin who's job it is to look for unused forums and remove then in that area, he is still getting up to speed on that job but look for some forums that dont get used to get removed soon.
