sebring question

my dad is about to purchase a sebring v6 ,02 convertible , and i wanted to know how are those cars ? is there anything we should keep an eye open for? do they get messed up too often? please lmk any info concernig this vehicle... thanks a lot

Not sure if it affects yours, but I heard bad things about that motor. Oil sludge and timing tensioner problems, Chrysler may have fixed it for 2002 I dont know. Research it I guess.

The 2.7L is a sludge motor. As long as the oil changes are done timely it shouldn't pose a problem.

But thats the problem with used cars, you never know how it was maintained during the first 80k miles. I would look for service reciepts in the glove box or console, hopefully the owner kept good service records.

Keep shopping , the convertible top will eventually start to leak and then bye,bye nice carpet ,and also the steering wrack assembly on that car is nuts they go bad all the time and its alot of work = labor = $$$$$$$

+1 on everything said above.. the water pump is internal on that engine, hugely expensive, plus those cars are creaky piles of shit.. steer clear.

i heard those cars have major issues with sludge building up my dad had an 02 intrepid i think is how u spell it with the 2.7l in it and keep up with the oil changes constently dont skip one or your motor could lock up very quickly. on a side note my dad actully owns a 99 sebring and its ok i guess. it has a few weird issues with it but nothing major has gone wrong with it yet cept it eats gas alot idk what the dealership tells you those things are gas hogs period.

main issuses are sludge motor, water pumps, oil pressure sensors leak and cause low oil pressure lamp to come on, thats all i can think of at the moment. thats the main repairs ive done most often...oh and the timing chain tensioner.
