i just acquired a 1990 mazda miata and i am looking to finally get back in the auto-x scene...after some downfalls with the 240 i had to sell it and not fix it...so picked the miata up....

only current issue i have with it...is the diff is welded...

is that going to pass tech if the diff is welded...im just looking at doing the FAST auto-x's at SPC and evntually make my way up north when they do the ones then..im looking at doing the juy 20th event and would like so info on this issue...

so..welded diff...fail tech..or pass tech:lol:

nobody checks stuff like that. it is less than ideal for autox, but most of us are driving cars that are less than ideal, anyway. :)

I can't imagine that a welded diff in a Miata would be in any way good for autocrossing. But, you'll learn that soon enough. ;)

No problem with tech, though.

well

ive taken it out on some spirited drives and thus far on tight corners i have been able to keep it from sliding out...

it actually is very grippy...it will slide..but only if i actually try...so it looks like i may do the event then...

also...

the roll bar for the miata...is that something they will require or is it top up at all times?

just curious..i didnt see any regulations on their site about convertibles....

I think I just found a new signature.

Roll bars are not required to autocross your Miata.
Real tracks do require them though.

I've got sigs turned off, so I would never see it.

'Real' tracks don't require roll bars. It depends on the club and their insurance, just like autox. Chin Motorsports will let you sign a waiver and run a convertible at their events without a roll bar. :D

i ran welded at the last PCA event. it only hurts your times. just practice early turn-in b/c it might give some initial push.

unda is more of a prob than sliding when using a welded for auto-x
