wood glue and staples.. why do people insist on using wood screws on installs like this,
the only time i have ever seen any screws being used is for really high power spl setups. this looks like a street beat set up..
and why the hidden sub? why such a long port with a sealed face.. thats kind of backwards.. but hey, how did it sound.

^^ If he used wood glue it wouldn't break cuz of splitting. I admit I am guilty of splitting some wood, but not one of my boxes has ever even came close to coming apart.
Use only 3/4" MDF, wood glue all panels together BEFORE mating them up (you can caulk seams once it is together if you want but if you glue properly, there should be no air leaks), and use the pneumatic nail gun-no pre-drilling necessary. Before the days of cheap prefab boxes, we used to throw boxes like that together in less than an hour and NONE ever came apart (interesting port design on yours though-I don't recall ever seeing that one). How did it sound with this configuration?

Pfft, still can put together a box in under an hour, with screws. If I had an aircompressor and nail gun I'd be done in 20minutes lol.

When I state under an an hour, that is starting from scratch with an 8' sheet of MDF-measuring, cutting, etc. This includes mounting the speaker wire jack housing, installing the sub & wiring it, wrapping it with carpet or vinyl or whatever, and installing it in the vehicle. If you can do all that, and it is done to spec perfectly in 20 minutes, you are hired...
I've seen your work posted and your posts are intelligent-I am sure the scenario above would be about an hour's worth of work for you.
All shops average about 1.5 to 2.0 hours to bring in a raw car, build a simple custom box and wrap it, and do a simple amp install. I've had installers do it faster, but those guys never stayed employeed long (halfass work, rechecks on every other car, etc).
The beauty of it now is that prefab boxes are only $25 to $50 average for a basic install. It has cut down on costs for the shop and the customer, and those boxes hold up really well with no air leaks, etc.
The dark side of it is all of the local shops basically purchase these boxes from the same local distributors/wholesalers-I see them/talk to them while we are waiting or at the shows. However, they charge the customer for a custom box ($200 - $300) and all they do is use a prefab box, and make a custom plate that is tacked across the back of the box that mimics the trunk line in like 20 minutes, and ship em' down the road. Good thing is, most customers are catching on...

Lol well all that now, I can't do it in 20 minutes, just putting a box together I can :D. Design, cut, build and carpet would probally take an hour if I had a nail gun and a router table. Of course boxes I have been building lately are a 2 day process.... I cut the wood then paint the port real good, let it dry and put together the next day.
That's a shame shops do that, never even knew they did SMH.
the box worked really good..its a little on the big side...I have a kicker KX600.1 on the 12" SL7...I have been thinking of going 2 JL8w7's but I think I am going o get some music for my truck 1st.
I use wood glue and CA glue to put mine together, solid every time.
