View Full Version : Cancer?

Has Cancer affected your life?

It has affected mine repeatedly...

Are you a survivor? Family member a survivor? Are you a widow, or have you lost a family member?

I've lost a Grandmother - lung cancer, have a surviving (strong, fighting) Aunt - brain & lung cancer, and have an awesome Mom that's a surviving breast cancer patient. That's just the women in my family...

"Dear family and friends,

I wanted to share the most recent information with all of you.... and call on everyone to pray really, really long and hard.... put Kally on all the prayer lists you can..... and ask God to take away her fears and worries, and give her the strength and fortitude to do whatever she needs to do... the doctors at MD Anderson called Kally tonight to inform her that after reviewing her films further, they have discovered two more tumors, now bringing the total to six...

While this number exceeds their protocol for the gamma knife, typically, they have decided to proceed with the gamma knife surgery anyways in two weeks to target the largest of the tumors.... the plan is to have her return two weeks later to evaluate the 'targetability' of the remaining lesions...... they have cautioned her that one of the lesions is very near the 'optic chiasm' and they are unsure if they will be able to treat that one successfully without the possibility of damage to her vision....how scary this must have sounded to her!!!

I realize that her options seem limited... but I do find some measure of comfort in knowing that she still HAS options!!! I have reassured her that this may be a setback.... but we will do whatever has to be done.... and she has the love, support, and prayers of each and every one of you (us)!!! I ask that you also pray God will guide the doctors in this treatment plan and that Kally feel His love, and know peace and comfort throughout the next weeks..... I humbly ask for strength, and guidance for myself to be all that she needs of me....."
-Kim Stansel, my mother's younger sister, in regards to their youngest sister - my Aunt Kally; still fighting brain and lung cancer now for two years straight!!

"April 12, 2008 will be the 3-year anniversary of my diagnosis of breast cancer. I was 44 years old, with no history whatsoever in my family. I went through a mastectomy and chemotherapy, and May 20, 2008 (surgery date) will be the 3-year anniversary of being cancer free!!!! The road was not always easy, but with the loving thoughts and prayers of family and friends I made it through it. My son and my husband were my biggest champions - even shaving their heads to show unity when I lost my hair."
-Angela Filippone, my breast cancer surviving mother!

The question is, what are you going to do about it? What are you willing to do in order to fight the battle? I know what I'm doing...

I'm taking part in a fund-raiser, through my school (St. Pete College) and our International Honor's Society (Phi Theta Kappa; Alpha Zeta Tau) in order to help raise funds for the fight against cancer!

On March 28th and 29th I'll be partaking in a 24-hour walk; symbolic in nature because we are acknowledging that Cancer NEVER SLEEPS... Nor shall we on this very day! We will have one member of our fund raising committee on the track at all times through the course of this event.

Our quest is to raise $10,000 for the American Cancer Society's "Relay For Life" - A Team Event to Fight Cancer! Are you able to help? A penny, a quarter, a dollar - or a hundred dollars. I'm able to provide receipts for those that need it for tax purposes (businesses and personal), and am also able to accept PayPal for those that don't want to meet up.

If you've been impacted by Cancer - at some point or another - and if you're interested in supporting the fight... Please donate to the cause!

PM Me, Email Me (MiDiablo03@Aol.Com), Call Me (727-455-7734 Cell; Lv Msg if no answer), whatever you're most comfortable with. My PayPal is the same address as my email account (if sending via P/P please know that there is a charge for accepting the funds and also mark as "Relay For Life Donation" in the title field).

Scott / Admin's - if this is inappropriate, then I apologize. Please let me know how to correctly post this information.

Thanks,
-Josh

Lost my stepmother to liver cancer - 46 years old. Several aunts and an uncle, various cancers.

And for those of you that don't get into the For $ale Forum often... I'm selling off some parts that I've got just stored in the garage in an effort to raise some money for myself to be able to donate:

My grandfather is my hero. He had Ephazemia(sp?) throat cancer, skin cancer, colon cancer, and eye cancer. His first cancer was throat and they said he probably wasnt going to make it. He lived for another 10 year and another 3 different types of cancer. I never once herd him complain or just want to give up. He was always fighing to live to the day he died. A few months after he died I got a tatto for him.5 clouds for 5 things that he overcame and the sun rays for all the times he got better.

$hawn/Mike - thanks guys! I truly believe that it's these things that we endure that make us stronger, and better overall as a person, friend, lover, etc. So I'll take these trials and tribulations, and do my best to overcome them!

FYI - N2S has raised over $40 already for the cause. TR members are slackin' :nono: You're not going to let N2S out-rep you guys, are you?

I just wanted to say THANKS again!

In a very short amount of time, I was able to raise just over $100 towards our goal of the $10,000. It may not be much, but it's a drop in the bucket either way you look at it!

I can still accept donations for those of you that have PM'd me about donating after getting paid this week - and I will gladly turn those in late.

However, tomorrow evening is the end of our "drive" as the Relay For Life begins tomorrow.

Thanks again TR!

Mike - I work from 9:30am-4pm out in Tampa. Then I've gotta try and get down to Shaun's (All American) and Chad's (Racing Innovations) to handle some stuff with those two gentlemen quickly... Then I've got class until after 9:45pm. Friday, on the other hand, I've got off all day and the fund-raiser monies aren't due until 6pm at the start of the event!

Shiny - sorry to hear that bro. Regardless of religous beliefs that have been discussed here recently, I hope that you're one day reunited with her.

Amanda & I walked for over 2 hours straight... My mother did the survivor's lap... And my chapter was able to raise $1,000 towards the goal of $10k from our school! I heard we actually were trying to reach $47,000 for the entire event; and heard somewhere else that we were up over $20k before tonight!

Update 6/18/2008...

Unfortunately my Aunt Kally has lost her fight against the Cancer that had taken over her body. She died peacefully in the early hours of the morning on June 16th, and we will be burying her tomorrow, laying her to rest next to her only brother who passed away ten years earlier. Now her journey's have begun with the Lord, and may her life in heaven be as glorious as promised to be.

I have setup a Trust Account at Wachovia Bank in the name of her son, my 19 year old cousin who is her sole survivor for donations if anyone is interested in partaking in that, feel free to PM or call me.

God rest her soul, and look out for the safety and well-being of her son.

Sorry for your loss man.

My father in law was just diagnosed with colon cancer yesterday.

Interesting note: One of the old martial arts masters in the system I practice and teach felt that everyone was born with cancer in their bodies. He felt that the way to combat it was to excersize and with sunlight. Both in moderation. IDK....Too much of anything seems to cause cancer.

It affects my life everyday. I am a nurse for the only not for profit hospice organization in Polk county. I got into after I was diagnosed back in 2005 with melanoma. I have since beat it. I lost my grandparents on my dads side of the family to lung cancer back in 1990 and 2000.

When I was in Nursing school I got involved with the ACS Relay for life and have been a team captain for the last eight RFL in Haines City, leading a team from my church in finding a cure. The easiest way to put it, having goe through cancer is that it SUCKS!

I commend you on what you are doing and if anyone has any questions or need help with anything let me know.

Thanks guys. I laid my aunt to rest this afternoon, and was honored to be a pall bearer (sp?). Tough times emotionally for all involved.

God speed to those who have loved ones with Cancer and/or have been effected by it in any way, shape, or form.
