Where my good ole boys at? ;)

The winch (Warn 2500) on one of my 4-wheelers is giving me grief.
If will feed the line out just fine.
However, when I attempt to have it pull the line it, all I get is the "clicking" sound coming from the relay / solenoid.

The winch is relatively new, only been used a few times.
It's last use was two weeks ago.
It was a little touchie then, but I was able to get it to work.

I have checked the electrical connections and grounds.
They have been cleaned and reassembled.

The sound is very distinct, but no effort is visible by the winch to retract the line.

Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

maybe the gear that makes it go in is slipping or not working, could have mud in it(i know how you are lol)? i dont know much about winchs but its a try

pull out a multimeter and see if you can single out where the power drops off at, start at the switch....

It's the solenoid.
It's under warranty.

A pain, but it could have been worse.

9 times out of 10 it's a solenoid. Warn's warranty is the primary reason they're so expensive, use it!

I am waiting on the solenoid to come in (warranty item).

In the interim, what is the easiest way to get the line to retract in.

Can I reverse the 2 wires running into the winch, thus reversing the polarity, and allowing me to electronically retract the line back in.

Or should I do something with the solenoid in an attempt to basically do the same thing?
The main difference I see initially is that the wires on the solenoid are easy to get to a very straight forward.

The wires running into the solenoid are difficult to get to and since there are four of them and I no longer have the manual, it is more complicated.

Thanks in advance.

Interim solution implemented.
I reversed the wires leading into the winch, thus reversing the "in" / "out" function.
Now I hit the "out" button and it retracts the line in. :D

Short-term fix till I get it warranty replacement solenoid.

how long can it take to warranty? That is why we stopped dealing with Warn, they just don't have the support. I know it's a small winch but we had the same problem with our larger 16+K lb winches. Milemarker treats us well. we've pulled 25K lb GVW F-550s with their 12K lb hydraulic winches. you can't stall their hydraulic winches. Now the question is how to get a 9K lb winch on a 4 wheeler.

No, the question is why would you want a 9k lb. winch on a 4 wheeler!!? I would think 9klbs. would do some serious tweaking to a 4 wheeler's frame. Besides that though, I don't see how you could produce the power to feed the winch...a bigger battery, maybe, but then you'd need a large alternator to support that as well.

yea a 9,000 pound winch on a 750 pound four wheeler doesnt sound right

I've been thinking about getting a Kubota RVT900 for it's hydraulic pump. it would make a sweet atv recovery vehicle, not to mention it's diesel.
