View Full Version : Ever Shot A Wedding?

Anyone here ever have the opportunity to shoot a wedding?

I'm supposed to be doing one soon, but I'm having mixed feelings. You, as the photographer has a chance to capture this one in a lifetime event.

Your Job is to...

* Record the day in the way they want
* Keep things running smoothly
* Know how to deal with and cope with any situation that may arise
* Get on well with their guests
* Get the job done
* Do it while not getting in the way
* Be efficient, on time and smart

...And much more I'm sure. But all of this scares me. If something goes wrong in one of these avenues, its all your fault.

There are 2 things that could happen, which makes me nervous.

1. You could totally nail the shoot. Getting every picture in every way you had hope. Opening the way for more clients to come your way after the wedding parties referrals.

2. You could totally drop the ball. And the wedding party is unhappy. Closing the door for further clients. And not capturing the moment most important in these two peoples lives.

With that being said, has anyone ever shot a wedding? If so, is there anything you did or didn't do that you wish you would or wouldn't have done?
Any tips or pointers?

I don't remember anyone posting about shooting a wedding, but if there are any tips you may have found online,books...etc. Please share.

These people are paying a lot of money for this.

Sorry for the long post :D

ive done two, one was a favor for a friend that I was doing for free, they gave me like $80 afterwords. it was not a great time, no one was happy there. 2nd one was my best friends, but I was in the wedding party, so I didnt get to shoot the ceremony, just before and after. its good when you know ppl there thats for sure. There is a couple of books on this too you could pick up.

i just shot my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary and that was weird enough shooting infront of about 200 friends and family, pictures turned out decent, but i couldnt imagine shooting the most important day of someone's life. if your comfortable shooting infront of large crowds, then you should be ok, good photographers always just seem to blend in places, almost becoming invisible. Good Luck man!

Thats what i'm worried about. Them not being friendly, cooperative or happy.

Yea your right. It is nerve racking shooting in front of large crowds. I've done it a few times before and it went ok. But never an event this crucial.

I have done 2 weddings.

One was for someone that I worked with, and it was in their back yard. Not a great location.

2nd one was for a good friend out at the beach. Ill post up some of those shots.:crack:

If they are uncooperative and give you hell, just be like "BITCH" then delete all the photos you took in front of them, while laughing manautically, and leave.

HD has done it again! Where would you guys be without me :roll:

All i can say is Have fun. Dont stress out.;)

If you have ever been to a wedding(not shooting it) there is atleast 2 photographers, and family with cameras. If you dont get the exact shot that they want, someone did.

I had 3 photographers at mine, all were friends and each one had fun. And yes some shots came out like ass, while others are printed and 8x10 on my desk.:crack:
