Neon vs Mustang GT

So I got a chance to run a new Mustang GT tonight (beautiful car), it was bone stock. He wanted someone to run and I was like "Hey, I'll run you for $5 per race."

Ran from a dig, he got cocky and gave me a 2 car headstart and I pulled about 5-6 cars on him by the time I was to about 100mph.
After that he was saying how he didn't understand when we were supposed to go... Fine, we can run again but I'll need another $5 :lol:

So I got my money.

Ran a 2nd time, had someone flag the race. I had a bad launch and only put 1/2 car on him til mid 2nd. Then I popped the rev limiter at the top of 2nd. Then stayed right on his bumper til around 110mph then we let off.

The car is bone stock and the guy was pretty upset that he pretty much lost to a Neon...

Does this sound right? I have a '96 DOHC 5spd with a mildly pnp'd intake manifold, iceman intake, 60mm tb, megan udp, mopar ecu and no weight reduction. Still have stock mounts & bobble strut (I know they need to be replaced). Just seems like I shouldn't be able to run with one of these things...

Well dang... It happened, don't really know what to tell you guys. There were plenty of people out there, just don't think any of them are on here. He had TCS, so that shoulda helped him with driving a bit.

It's not the first GT I've ran, the other race was pretty much the same as this one.

^ traction control would actually make him slower from a dig which explains why you pulled him at first. The new ones arent that quick unless they are modded...its 300 HP to the crank and a 13.5 time stock...but those things are tanks.. So im sure at the track with his TCS off it would be a different story

White Neon is slow, the R/T could roll down a hill faster than the other one could drive. :lol:

i didnt know that but either way.....a. its on vid now. b. it shouldnt matter if the mustang driver was horrible or if it had TCS bla bla bla, a win is a win and a loss is a loss, be it a neon vs a mustang or a honda or w/e. and c. whos to say a modded neon like that cant run that way?

good run and kill just make sure you dont get cocky about it. i beat a modded v6 mustang in my white dohc ATX neon which is the slowest out of all the neons and only modifications were heavy 17" rims and a 40lb shopping cart handle on the trunk(yes the rice was bad back in those days). the red car is a different story, stock bottom end and built head and i kept up with almos anything that tried to run me. good thing you have it on video to shut up the shit talkers!

Yea, forgot all about that until Tyler called me while I was in Tampa. The car should be ready to run this weekend hopefully... The car needs a timing belt pretty bad (worn & cracked the worse I've ever seen). Just waiting on it and the updated tensioner to get here before I drive it hard again.

i went 13.4 @ 102 bone stock with the heavy 18's and 13.1@107.8 with intake/tuner/offroadx and mufflers steeda track springs and sway bars set to way tight for autox.. on the same rim and stock worn down tires. but yea, were a bit heavy. 3450-3500 lbs i think im at. if tcs is of there really easy to launch tho i feel. ive cut a few 1.90-1.95's with the setup i have now on worn down street tires.

then again, ive seen a ton of ppl go mid 14's in the car with my mods also... some ppl cant drive i guess...

lol i dont care, ive built a few ls1 cars with friends, i love f bodies also... and my best time was a 12.80...@91... letting out at the 1k foot mark... on bald stock 235 series tires... i had i/xpipe/tuner and a 60 dry shot with no tune running like hell... but i did get a 1.90 60ft with only lowering springs
