Im going to painting my car...im not looking for show quality.

I understand that my compressor is not great for use with an HVLP..

I have a 2hp 33 gallon tank...but could I get away with painting a section at a time?

I get about 8 cfm @ 40 psi.

The gun uses 7cfm

thanks for your help..

You might get a fender sprayed before you are out of air. Thats a small compressor.

a 33 gallon tank with only 2hp is quite small.. Although its not a small tank. And you have to look at what CFM the gun uses at what pressure... You say you have 8cfm@40psi which means its even lower at 90psi which is what the gun should require. You could paint small areas at a time but Im not sure how the coverage will be with that CFM rating...

honestly you will be fine with that and shouldnt run out of air at all as long as your cfm on the gun is lower then the compressors .... a hvlp requires about 10-15 psi to run so 8 cfm at 40psi is plenty .... I spray my clear with a gun that takes up 9.6cfm and the compressor i use is 10cfm @ 40psi and i shoot the clear at 40-45psi and never have a problem even on a all over job....
