Does anyone know what ohm a dual 1.5 sub wire's down to when wired (+,+, and -,-) is it a (0.5) load or a (1.0) load even..I was checking out the (JL Audio W7's) and they are dual 1.5 ohm. and i would like to get 2 of the (JL Audio 1000/1) amp or 2 of the (Orion HCCA D2400) but dont know if an orion amp can handle a (0.5) load. I honestly dont think that you will get the full effect from a JL if you dont have all the power running to them that they need. so how about if i ran a (Orion HCCA D5000) to both its a little more power then is recomended for the W7's but i would need to know what the W7's wire down to so that i dont run ohm loads to the amp if the amp itself cant handle it..

Why you wanna go with W7s? There are many subs out there better and cheaper. Secondly.. 1.5 is either .725 or 3 ohm load.

i dont know i thought that w7's were a really good brand.. so they wont run at a 1 ohm load then.

No they won't, JL does that so basically your confused into buying a JL1000/1 becuase it produces the same wattage from 1.5 to 4 ohms. Just a slick marketing move.

ah indeed...so what do you think would be the best route to go..im into BIG BASS but im going to only have enough room to run a pair of 12's so what do you think i should pick up..or check out for myself.

Well if your into serious bass, check out some Fi BTLs.

Are they really that good..and what kind of amp should i put to them?

At minimum 2kw per sub... ideal is more like 3kw per sub.

so 3k would push the hell out of the subs...got it. I checked out the site and there are different set ups for the subs. what would be the best? there are cooling and adding other magnets..i just want whats going to hit the hardest.

Fully-Loaded would perform the best.

what kind of amp would you preffer i was thinking of running 2 seperate amps to each sub but dont know what amp to go with...what is the peak on the subs and the rms? that would help my search a little bit better.
the727kid
03-04-2008, 08:06 PM
RMS is 2000 for the base sub no options. Peak umm well, that's not really a number anyone cares about. Steve Meade sends his 4kw daily, they have been burped with 20kw... not too many subs that have more output. DC LV5, RE MT, IA DP, DD9500(or 9900), are all subs that are in some catagory.

ok then no proble so what do you think if i run 2 Orion D5000 amps. one for each sub?

Does 2500@1ohm? Would be pretty good. Your looking at some money for all that run properly though.

yeah i know im building a show car with a great system in it..but i cant settle onto one sub.. thats why i come to here for some info..so that way i kind of have an idea of what would be good. so fully loaded 12 fi btl's with 2 orion hcca d5000 sounds like a good set up?

Yea, what type of car? That will be loud as hell, what you running for a front stage?

ok here is the whole set up.
Head Unit: Pioneer AVH-P4900DVD (http://sonicelectronix.com/item_8865_Pioneer+AVH-P4900DVD.html)
Mids, Highs, and Tweeters: Infinity Perfect 6.1 (http://sonicelectronix.com/item_2742_Infinity+Perfect+6.1.html), Infinity Kappa 693.7i (http://sonicelectronix.com/item_4219_Infinity+Kappa+693.7i.html), Infinity Kappa 10.7t (http://sonicelectronix.com/item_5155_Infinity+Kappa+10.7t.html)
and you already know the subwoofers and the amps. so what do you think? think it might be an ok setup?

Why so many tweeters? I'm not sure how audible that will be over the BTLs.
brownguy06
03-04-2008, 08:49 PM
yeah maybe i shoule cut out the last set of tweeters and just run the 6x9's and the 6.5's. i just want some sq in the car just in case i do show the car i dont lose any points due to poor quality.
the727kid
03-04-2008, 09:00 PM
Well the BTLs are not SQ subs, while they sound good, they are mainly for getting loud as balls lol. If you worry about SQ, I would ditch the 6x9s, and spend more money on the front stage.
brownguy06
03-04-2008, 09:08 PM
well im not to worried about it. i mean its not like im going to go out there and jump into a comp..i would really like to have on badass spl car but thats looks just as good as it is loud. and let me ask you somthing does it matter between the spl and the daily choice that you have when you are customizing your sub on the site?
aleister2k
03-04-2008, 09:10 PM
YES.. get daily.
the727kid
03-04-2008, 09:16 PM
Like he said, getting the daily is a MUST! The SPL has a much tighter gap and is ONLY for burps.

ok thanks for the info there goes an avoided mistake right there..

If you do care about SQ, step down to the BL or even the Q.. BL is a good mid line between the two. If you actually want to hear your music, the BTL might be a bit too much.. You can probably save a pretty penny on amps going with teh Q's and put that money towards your sound stage. Would still get all the options though.

In the FWIW section, Lucio Proni (L in JL audio) chose dual 1.5ohm coils for the W7 because that gave the best results for SQ. yep, the W7 is an SQ woofer.
Don't know what one has to give for fully loaded BTL's, but I have a pair of critical mass UL12's. These subs were given the highest score ever by car audio magazine. They are 2500 RMS, 5000 max. I had one in my escalade on 3000 watts (real watts...sundown 3000D) and it did over 145 on music. Some guys are putting 10kw plus to these, and getting mid 150's.
They retail for $2000 each. I have one new, and one slightly used...I'd sell the pair for $1100.

^^Bout the same price of 2 15" Fully-Loaded BTLs.
O/T how does dual 1.5s make a sub sound better? Until there is some pretty solid evidence to that, my opinion stands that it is just a marketing gimmick.
