actually they had the rope in a good place... they just forgot to actually cut the tree before they snatched it.. if they would have cut a pie in line with the rope and cut the backside of the tree the truck could have pulled and guided it down..

the way they did it was pretty stupid but if he would have actually went forward when the tree started falling he would have been fine..

i'll show you a video i took a couple days ago of the RIGHT way to do it..

if you notice the truck to the right of the screen that is a 06 dodge 2500 diesel the tree just absolutely dwarfs it.. it was fuckin HUGE.. but there is a rope going from the truck to the tree..

actually just cut tha top out of it cut tha pie in tha frontside then cut towards tha pie from tha opposite side tie tha rope and pull her down slowly!

well if there is enough room to drop the entire tree why cut the top out? just takes more time.. and if you know how to do it without breaking shit (as the crew i work on does) then you can pie and drop the whole thing..

i watched it again and there isn't anything showing they dug around the bottom of the tree.. even if they did that theres no way in hell your busting all of those roots by just digging unless you have a backhoe or a bobcat..

we just found our last crew member 2 weeks ago so we wont need anyone until someone gets fired which i doubt will happen because everyone on the crew is a friend outside of work... but i would put us up against anyone in speed and quality.. theres not a tree anywhere that we couldn't get down safely.. we do all of the shit other tree services won't do..

When we have had to cut down trees, we use another tree for a pulley system. You pull with the truck, and the tree falls away from it. We've had some tight spots to work with.

Ummm....In your video (MrNiceGuy), your vehicle is WAY further out than what theirs was. Like I said, someone didn't measure correctly. Had they put more rope/cable/whatever between the truck and the tree, they would have been fine. But they didn't, and now their truck is junk. (Personally, it was junk before but thats another story)

You however, have WAY more experience at doing that than I do, so your way MUST be the right way. I would just get a general guestimate of how tall the tree is, and get a rope or cable that is about 15-30 ft longer. But thats just me. Of course, I have no idea what it means to "pie" a tree or anything like that.

That or I would call someone lik eyou to come take care of it for me. LOL

the reason the truck is further out is because the tree is way bigger.. what they have would work if the truck would have drove instead of sitting there when the tree came down..

but oh well they went about the whole thing the wrong way.. if they were doing what he said up there and were trying to replant it somewhere else they would need a crane and a flatbed truck.. not a fucking isuzu or whatever the hell that thing is..

OK, let the Old Guy step in here and straighten things out for you.

Here's the way I see it. The basic problem was that was Al Gore doing the driving. He was on the wrong side of the fence and didn't flip to the other side before he took off. They were using the come along because the truck was already up against the fence and could go no further. The impossible to cut root ball was all that was saving the truck. That worked until the root ball said, "Fuck it. Fuck you and Fuck your truck. I'm voting Republican Guard." The only pie what would have helped that situation would have been a big ol' hair pie.
