We also may have the Classic Mini club joining us.. But dont worry the course will be open and quick.

How long are the courses they put together at the airport?
30 seconds, 40, 50, 60???

bam2002
03-03-2008, 09:39 PM
Usually in the 50s.. I try to keep them at 1 min or under.
We use to run 90 sec courses but I need 2 more stations and its not possible with less than 30 cars. ( not enought persons for cornerworkers) We usually run 30 to 35 cars. Thats why we can do 10 runs..

This mix of cars will be fun. Can we have a burnout contest so I can feel worthy??

Since this is a new event for me.............

Is water provided?
What is for lunch?
Can spectators eat?
What is spectator costs?
Is there compressed air avail?

HAH! I'm all questions and no answers!

bam2002
03-11-2008, 08:37 PM
Yes we usually bring enought water for 2 per person So you may want to bring some also
Lunch is Lunchmeat. Ham turkey - cheeses, PB and J, Keebler double fudge cookies. Chips..
Spectators can also eat. We ask for $3 at the gate to cover the food.
If they dont want to eat there is No charge.
Yes I bring out a generator and a compressor.

Good questions...
It will be a pretty open course so that we can shoot for the 8 or more runs.

Im not sure how many classic minis will be out.. May be more new minis, a Lotus or 2. Should be fun

Hey, maybe word will spread that BMW has roast beast and name brand turkey...and lots and lots of CHOCOLATE. Or maybe I bought stuff that I like and can't have at home.
Back on topic, Barry can I please use 3rd gear this month please please please.

Loren
03-14-2008, 04:00 PM
If I may answer for Barry:

You can use 3rd gear anytime you like. Please start in 3rd gear and drive the whole course in 3rd gear. (hey, it works for Dennis in the Super Stalker!)

(on a more serious note, the airport doesn't want us driving more than 60 mph... that generally means little or no use of 3rd gear)

Fun event! The course was good, got a few runs in the Yaris, and more than a few in the "Lemon". Even took an M Roadster out for an "instructor run"!

I don't know how Barry will make sense of the results... we had about 4 different drivers in the race car all driving under my #11!

Oh well, I know my fastest runs were 44.9 in the race car and 43.7 in the Yaris. (and 44.2 in the Roadster)

the lemon car was fun as hell to drive. Though the brakes need to bleed I think. It does make me want to hurry up and finish my car. It was addicting

Loren
03-16-2008, 06:07 PM
We haven't touched the brakes, I'm sure they need a full flush and bleed with some good fluid. I was impressed with how well the car stopped after the finish. Much better brakes than my Yaris.

I think we got really lucky on our initial setup on that car. Just a little bit of tweaking and it will be freakin' awesome!

it will probably be another year+ before my mustang is ever done. Thanks for letting me drive the Lemon. I was surprised by the grip it had for street tires. Didnt like the clutch or the gear box though. That was a pretty easy and smooth course, I had never walked it and just sorta figured it out while dirving the first run. Ok I have added the Yaris, switched the 335 times- drivers. And i need to check with the drivers to see if that car is all stock. RE points and how the car is classes. A all stock 335 is 55 points.
The points and classes are at the bottom of the spreadsheet.
I also swapped the Z car into the 6 cyl class.

If I read it right, Loren was faster in the Yaris. Wow..
I meant to ask if Loren's Hawaiian shirt came free with the purchase of the Yaris. (Just some kidding from another Hawaiian shirt collector.)

Yeah, the Lemon seems to be down on power and has sluggish steering. I'm sure that if we cure those two problems, it should be way faster than the Yaris. But, the Lemons race is more about endurance... and that old BMW feels rock solid.

I started buying hideous Hawaiian shirts a couple years ago. The obnoxious red one was actually a Christmas gift! Shhhhh... Hawaiian shirts make you drive faster.

and it is a fact that my times have dropped since I started autocrossing in them.

See what happens when you drop a trademark. When I lived in the Frigid north the Hawaiian shirt was a novelty so I always wore one to autocross, and I was faster... hummmmm....

For proof of Speed that is a Hawaiian shirt go here from 9 years ago
Philly Results 5/30/99 (http://www.autox4u.com/1999results/53099philly.htm)

7th out of 110 in pax. Hawaiian shirt equipped. oh and you'll notice that event we put Mazda Motorsports Stickers on the Z3 since it felt out of place in "Miata Stock" now In 1999 I did over 25 autocrosses that season, had new Hoosiers whenever I needed them and Drove a 2 year old BMW. what went wrong in my life since then? I should have this autocross thing licked by now.

I guess the old saying is true, "If autocrossing was any easier it'd be called road racing."
