View Full Version : Fun Ford Orlando Sucked

What a shameful turn out for the season opener in Orlando, I was really looking forward to it. Besides the shitty track conditions as usual the racer and spectator turn out was horrible. Sure a little of it had to do with fuel prices and economy concerns. Some of it had to do with the big money race in Memphis but I think most of it falls back on how things have been going with Fun Ford the last few years. It has been a steady decline of many things.
I have some vids and pics coming but there is not a lot of big action in them like in the past.
Personally I do not see how this series is going to survive much longer which is a shame, it was badass back in the day.
On a funny note I could have entered Renegade and came in runner up. Or entered Pro 5.0 and made the semi-finals. Tells you how slow the field was. Some local 'fast' cars could have cleaned up at the event and been the big man on the totem pole on a national level.

Well imagine that but even shittier. Drag radial was done away with, renegade had one running car, and some of the other upper tier classes had six cars or less. Fugging sad, really.
The NMRA race this week is going to be the true test of where all of this is coming from.

I dotn remember last year being that shitty for NMRA, it was race teams from the stands down past the trap lights. Though too many bracket racers for my taste

For the past couple of years, I dont think anyone can regret going to any NMRA at Bradenton. Good times, great weather, good people. Cant beat it.

On a side note, Scott don't i remember you making a thread last year that Fun ford sucked?? I know someone did and its the main reason I didn't go this year.

The last couple events that they have had at Orlando have sucked not just FFW. Orlando will not get anymore of my money, for any event. That place sucks, starting with the drive to get there...

I really think its because of the track. They need it back at Bradenton IMO

Ditto. I went to slipperworld twice. Sideways and spinning the cobra almost the whole way down the track. Bradenton for me.:nerd:

I agree with that post but I am kinda hypocritcal on that issue. I fuckin hate watchin bracket racing. But on the other hand I love to race it. Why, because you dont have to have a huge budget to enter a car and go have fun and maybe win something. And thats all I can afford to race with my budget at this time.
But on the other hand NMRA is supose to be a race to show the best of the best of the Ford world. I say save the bracket racing for another day. Just my .02 cents
I guess that comment makes me really hypocritical. I was planning on going out there and racin a bracket class this year but the car just isnt consistant enough yet lol.

I don't ever plan on going to orlando's track again. After all the stories from street nationals last year along with how the did the payouts makes me not want to go. Its good in terms of cars but after all the bs I don't think it is worth going and spending at least a few hundred dollars out there.
I heard the turnout at heads up madness was a good as normal. Fun ford didn't really draw much from our local crowd. Thats most likely because of the rules and class restrictions.

 Okay so the consensus is Orlando sucked, anyone want to meet Sat morning somewhere to ride down to Brandenton?
We are going to be leaving probably around 6:30 Sat morning from SR 54 and I-75.

As much as people dislike the bracket racing/index classes they are typically the ones that have the bigger/more consistent turnouts which keep these types of events alive..
FFW used to be the iSHT back in the day, was the first all ford series out and put on a hell of a show. The Spring Break opener they had @ BMP for 10 or so years was THE ford race to go to until the "change of venues" (don't think that drama needs to be stirred back up).
Both series used to put on good shows for a while, FFW is long in the tooth now and needs to go away, NMRA isn't too far behind them.. they just started much later in the game... I think if they would've pooled their efforts you would've had one hell of an All ford show, but ego's got in the way.
ADRL and ORSCA are what are hot now, but i think we'll see more kept up at the local tracks due to the cost of travel, etc for the average joe.

bracket has the most racers I will give you that, but when the bracket racers come out, everyone leaves the stands and goes to hang out in the pits

i don't disagree, but take away all of their entry fees that they pay and these events wouldn't exist or the payouts would be worse than they are...
looks like the car is coming along Mars, continued luck with it.

 It really is sad to see FFW go downhill like it has in the past 3-4yrs. Back in Ohio they always schedule FFW @ Norwalk the same weekend the Good Guys Tour came to town AND the same weekend a NMRA event was scheduled. I ran as many FFW and NMRA events as I could from '99-'03 and then my Son came along, which slowed things down a bit. If it wasn't for the strong backing by Ford, I think FFW would already be gone. Sad
