So I purchased a 98 passport and Went to install a radio in it, but the factory radio plugs are jacked up. They were cut and the previous radio was installed by splicing wires together without using a radio kit. I was wondering if I could cut the factory radio plugs off a civic/accord etc.. etc... and splice them to my 98 passport, would there be a problem or it would work ????

someone please help i dont want to splice wires together, I want to put it back to original form as if i bought it from the dealer brand new.... not rigged.

if u want to do it truely right go to a stereo shop they usually sell the plug for radios, u can get the factory one and the one to plug into the factory one to wire to the radio, thats what i would do...all in all u might spend 40 bucks...that would put it bad to the way it origionally was the metra plug numbers are 70-7712 and 71-7712 any shop should have them in stock and if they dont carry metra they should be able to crossreferance to whoevers brand they carry

Hey. Not sure why but when I looked at the wires in the passport mine are differnt color. Im making a assumption that maybe Depending on the month or quarter the car was built they changed the color of the wires ???

I can get the radio to turn on, all hooked up, but no sound comming though.. I even did a direct connect from the radio speaker wire to the speaker and still nothing...

hmm...thats weird especially if you did the direct connect and nothing! id say check the fuses but if you have power to the radio, its prob not a blown fuse. Id also check the ground but same thing....you wouldnt get power if it was grounded! i would just mess with it....im lost with no advice sry man! ive hooked up tons of radios in cars but never heard this or have it happen to me before

did some homework...a couple things...
1. your "chime" fuse may be blown which is located under you dash...its a small fuse that is sometimes used in volume control. It coulda blew by touching two wires together during the install.
2. try hooking up one speaker at a time. If one of the speaker grounds are bad, they will all not work....go through them and try it that way
3. there may be a factory amp. one of the grounds may be bad in that but to be honest, i dnt think the passport has a factory amp. just a option! check it out if the rest fails!

is the radio new or used? is it possible the internal radio amp is blown? can also happen by hooking up the wires wrong or by touching the head unit with power wire! good luck..pm me if u want help

The radio is brand new.. I connected the radio with the battery disconnected.. So just incase i did cross a wire by mistake it wouldnt blow... I will have to check the under dash volume fuse... that sounds interesting.. never knew it had it.... thx..

You're probably going to have to tap into the outgoing wiring harness wherever the factory amp is. Not sure on those cars, check under the front seats first.
