March 2008 Photo Contest: Shallow DOF

Theme: "Shallow Focus (DOF)"

Thanks to everyone who participated in February's contest. This month's contest will feature pictures with shallow focus. If this is something you're not familiar with, I've provided some background info below to get you started.


Background Information
Depth of field - In optics, particularly as relates to film and photography, the depth of field (DOF) is the distance in front of and beyond the subject that appears to be in-focus. (Example below)

For those of you who are shooting with point and shoot camears - flip your camera into macro mode and focus on something very close to the camera. You'll quickly see shallow focus.

Quick example. Left side has very limited DOF (F/1.8 ), right side has more of a normal DOF (F/8.0). If anyone has a better example (one that you've taken, not something taken from google images) feel free to PM it to me and I'll replace this one.

Contest Details:
Photo Size: Maximum of 800x600

Maximum Number of Entries: 3

Rules:
* Photographs must be taken during the month of the contest (March).

* You must state whether you're in the Point/Shoot category or dSLR category.

* PICTURE MUST, OBVIOUSLY, COMPLY WITH THE THEME!

Contests ends: March 31st.
Voting Begins: April 1st.

It is certainly appropriate for all of you, who shall remain nameless, that complained about the contests starting late to start saying "thanks" for starting this contest less than three hours into the month. ;)

If you dont know what it is: ~> I have an Auto-X exhaust on my car right now that has a turn down (right before the gas tank!) The picture I posted is basically the "turn-down!"

Yeah, its so "gangster" that I was popping reflectors off the road (on Easter!) My Fiance was like, WHAT IS THAT NOISE? <~ And now look at the turn down! Its got a nice ding in it near the tip!
