Okay, I've set the appointment for 9:00am Wednesday morning to have this system installed. It's for my boss's Xterra, hence the no sub or amp. He wants a clear, clean, crispy sound..
Alpine CDA-9884 Head-unit
XM Satellite (When the recall is over, due to their software)
I-Pod Cable
Dash Kit Harness
Alpine 2way "6x9" TYPE R
Alpine 2way "6.5" TYPE R
They estimated $1,300 for the total. Does this sound decent?

is that the cost including parts? if so, sounds reseanable for brick & mortar. Cheaper parts on ebay, but warranty coverage sucks plus most stuff is sold from overseas which hurts our economy, and no tax means our national deficit isnt helped by online sales..

I dont think sales tax is ever going to offset what our government is spending. SOunds like a decent price.
why does this thread sound extremely familiar?

$1300 sounds a quite much, but coming from a retail shop I guess it isn't.

Interesting, slightly unrelated note. Sellers don't charge sales tax, they collect it. The difference? Just because an internet or out of state seller didn't collect tax from you, doesn't mean you don't have to pay it. This is from the Florida Dept. of Revenue
Have you bought or received merchandise from out of state or through the internet?
You Might Owe Florida Tax
Most Florida citizens are not aware that this state has a "use tax." Use tax normally applies to items purchased outside Florida, including another country, which are brought or delivered into this state and would have been taxed if purchased in Florida. The use tax rate is the same as the sales tax rate, 6%.
Examples include:
Purchases made through the Internet.
Mail-order catalog purchases.
Purchases made in another country.
Furniture purchased from dealers located in another state.
Computer equipment ordered from out-of- state vendors advertising in magazines.
More interesting, is that there is now a form online, that lets you report these purchases, and pay the tax. Now, I'm guessing that not too many of these reports get filed, but that's where it could get interesting. As the state budget gets crunched through property tax, etc., they will start looking for money anywhere they can find it. It wouldn't be a big stretch to see them start looking at ebay purchases (anyone can see what you have bought), paypal transactions (a little more difficult, but not impossible), etc. And since this is a problem for every state, not just Florida, I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see interstate cooperation...Florida will provide sales out of state sales data to other states that do the same to Florida. As a merchant, I already have to break my tax exempt sales out when I turn in sales tax every month. It wouldn't be a big stretch for them to ask me for that data by state. It wouldn't be a much bigger stretch for them to ask for supporting data, like receipts or shipping data, to see who I sold them to. They will ask for this in an audit situation, so merchants are already expected to collect the data. Will it happen tomorrow? Probably not, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some big changes soon. It wouldn't require any new laws...paying tax on what you buy and use is already a law.
The other side of this coin is that states typically spend what they need, vs. spend what they have...they just find ways to pay for it. With the economy slowing, and thing like amendment 1 cutting revenue, I wouldn't be surprised to see sales tax go up. I remember when Pinellas county was only 3.5%, and it wasn't that long ago. If the state chooses not to reign in internet sales, they could raise sales tax...I think they'd get a lot less fight on the internet issue, since raising taxes is an ugly topic, but they could do it. So, you pay more for the stuff you can't buy online. And just because they raise sales tax, doesn't mean they can't do the internet thing down the road. Even with all that money rolling in, I doubt sales tax will ever go back down, so we pay again. Recurring theme...the state will get their money.
That concludes your morning civics lesson. Now go out and support your local business...pay it now, or pay it later.

That price is high. You must be at one of the big Dale Mabry shops or retail chain (C. City B. Buy). If you are shopping for a lower price, PM me or call. I think this is a couple of hundred bucks high for just Alpine stuff...
