Well I have an alpine CDA-9856 head unit that was in my previous car. I recently got a 99 accord that had a shotty premier head unit. The good news was that the mounting kit fits the alpine. So today I go ahead and do all the stripping and reconnecting of the wires to the alpine and it wouldn't work.

It would light up with the display and all but no audio would come through my speakers. I figured the amp blew inside of the unit. So I hooked the premier unit back up and it worked. I was lazy and didn't disconnect my battery and a quick shot of sparks flew shortly after (nothing major). I disconnected the premier unit to give the alpine one more shot, to no avail.

So when I go to hook the premier back up it wont even give me a display, then i tried to at least get a display from the alpine, but now it wont either. Did I fry something that wont let power get to any head unit? If so how do I fix this?

Please help because I am extremely pissed I wasted a good 3 hours and also I have to ride out in silence :-(. Thanks

did you check the radio fuse in the fuse box?

laziness is the whole reason why things break. Gotta make sure to do things properly or crap like this happens.

Anyways, make sure to replace the stereo/dash or cabin fuse, check them all. After you've found the culprit, replace it.

As far as the alpine, more than likely you have the internal Amplifier disabled. Most people do this for a cleaner signal. To reenable it, go into the menu by pressing the Mute button for a couple of seconds and look for the IC enable (or something like that) and switch it to on or enable. That's what's usually the culprit.

If it don't work, let us know.

yeah i regret my laziness big time p057. i'll have to check out my fuses and see if i cant find which one it might be, the thing is that the entire dash lights up, just not the head unit. also, i did turn the IC on through the menu on the alpine unit.

is it possible that the wires the go into the back of the unit are somehow destroyed?

just tap the ignition for power and remote and get your ground. Dicking with stock wiring is never worth it.

If you don't know what your doing, get someone to show you or take it someplace that can do it. Messing with stuff when you have no clue can mess up other parts that are far more expensive... I am sure there are plenty of people around who would show you what to do for a cold one or two.

Isnt tapping the stock ignition wires dicking with it?

if the car starts, the ignition wires have power. They feed the accessory circuit anyways so why bother troubleshooting the radio harness.

if u cant find the fuses u might not wanna try and tap any wires-The fuse for the radio is located in the fuse panel that is on the side of the drivers side dash open your door on the drivers side look on the side of the dash and you will see a piece of plastic that has a handle on it pull that piece off and the fuse for the radio is on the row futhest away from the windshield and will be the second or third from the top and it will probably take a 15A fuse start pullin them out and checkin if there blown p.s. pull one at a time u dont wanna mix up ur fuses!

yeah i know where the fuse box is, and I looked and the only 15A fuse is the very top one on the row furthest from the windshield, its labeled ig. coil.

Check for a 7.5 amp fuse in the box under the hood.

Rather than wait three days for help, why don't you just check ALL the fuses?

It might be named Accessory
