View Full Version : A couple more HDR edits...
I took these last week, finally got around to messing with some. The first is a wilder HDR effect meant to look hand drawn or something, the latter two are a bit more subtle.
Enjoy...

Numero tres is the best. I like it.
But HDR is kind of getting out of hand, everyone's on it like if it was crack.

the second might be my favorite if it wasnt for the star flare on the headlight...kind of cheesy. So i have to go with the third one. Next time your on top of the parking garage you should take and hdri image for me so i can use it on some of my 3D drawings.

With that glare and the "hand-drawn" effect it kinda looks like something out of Forza... rep to OP

#2, by far.
Everything comes together nicely.
Number three isn't bad, but I've seen that backdrop more than I've seen HDR.

It seems a shame to bring HDR into play when you've got such a good looking car. I just can't get over the halo's around things and the lack of local contrast.
With that being said, I like the compositions a lot. Also, you apparently picked a good time/day for the shoot - I was up there Saturday evening and I was barely able to get any shots off before a) cars started parking up there, limiting my shots/angles and b) a couple with their camera walked right into my shot and started shooting pics of the skyline.

Those are the kind of HDR pics that I respect, abosolutely amazing shots. Rep.
BTW, what kind of camera did you use?

Dude, its a saturday. And its ... not gonna give out the name even though its been whored enough. But you have to go there on a sunday.
Thanks for the comments fellas. I actually just found that place while driving around and thought it would be a nice spot to shoot. There are spots all over downtown that make great backdrops.
As far as the HDR thing, this is only my 2nd time to try it and thought it turned out nicely with the sunset. I've got plenty of "normal" shots of my car. I didn't realize how much people dislike it, though. I guess it's just one of those things where you hate something that's different, although I have seen some really bad and gaudy HDR shots...
I touched up the last shot just now a little bit because I noticed a dust speck, but I think it turned out to be my favorite of the bunch.
The pics were all shot on a Rebel XT with Tamron 17-50 f2.8 lens.
One thing I noticed this shoot is that even with 100 iso, the darker exposure can make things a bit grainy. For that reason I left out the -2 bracketed shot on the last one and took the +2 exposure one fstop higher with a raw editor.

Well alot of people dont like hdr, because when most people do it. They're not very good at all. I suck at it so I dont even try it. But yours is nice!

Your HDR shots are better than most, I didn't mean to insult your shots. My point was that your shots would've been great without HDR. I'd be interested to see what your normally exposed shots look like.
Also, have you tried combining exposures manually? You might like the way that looks too.

No worries. I posted these over on the 350z forums and some people kind of scoffed at them too. I was kind of surprised.
The exposures on the normal shots turned out just OK. I was mainly trying to bracket and get as many as possible. It would have been much better with some fill lighting.
Combining them manually how? Right now the workflow for these was:
Lightroom > Photomatix > Lightroom > Photoshop
