OK so thanks to Toby I have two white panels made of high density plastic stuff with circular arrays with 24 5.2mm holes. I am planning on cutting a 10mm hole in the center for my two green LEDs... and if the green flavor of rice appeals im going to do the rest of the outside in green as well.

I purchased 40,000 mcd LEDs from Besthongkong.com. The LED specs put them at 3.2v with 20ma draw. They also send you matching resistors for 12v application which i wont need but its a nice touch.

To be continued in... 3 hrs

I remember reading a thread you posted about it awhile ago,If I had fogs i'd do it..Cheaper/Nicer solution.

Aight Halos are finished!!! I'm starting to love making these things. I might just make the Xs and the triangles just for fun...

Mount and planned wiring

Old lights - This is what almsot two years in use looks like. Not a single LED failed.

New lights soldered

pretty slick! how do they look with the lights off in the light/daytime? that white plastic must stick out like crazy

If I didn't have a white car they might. But as it is, they look clean in the light heres some pics i just took:

Thanks, I'm ordering 50 orange LEDs and 100 White LEDs and two NE555 Timer ICs and a few various capacitors and resistors and Im going to build a set of X foglights with triangle signal lights that will turn on with the turn signals.

why the timers? Just use your existing turn signal wires, and they will blink at the same rate.

I know I could just buy an electronic module but isn't building it more fun & rewarding?

Yes, usually. When you have the time to do it.

And you definitely have time.

Did you make those at work or is that your mom's countertop?

That is a nice custom look. Very original. If you coud find a way to do that inside a factory lense, I could probably have a custom market for these. Been doing a ton of HID conversions lately including the fogs but I have a few customers that are looking for something "one off". I am sure there is a $200-$300 price range for these installed believe it or not...

Theres no secret to them. buy leds, drill holes in plastic, solder.

as MCOR mentioned, I had to remove the stock lens from the foglight housing and fix my led plate onto it. That was by far the hardest part (heat them to 200 degrees)

any good websites where i can get a hold of the leds and plastic ??

When you get a customer looking for something like that, and willing to spend a couple bucks, give me a call. I'm pretty good at making stuff like that fit into factory or factory like housings, etc., and that's the sort of business I like. I've had lots of experience with plastic manufacturing (injection molding, vac. forming, rotational molding, casting, heat welding) and materials.

My 53 Merc, for example, has custom LED tails, made in Caddy bezels, and cameras hidden behind two way plex in the side mirrors.

Dalton, before you go to undercut me, remember, I have the CNC :D

No. Building something not offered as a $10 plug and play by the aftermarket, perhaps, but not an electronic flasher.

Of course, you are entitled to your opinion, but the little things are the most important.

Cool stuff man, I imagine you can do almost any pattern you could drill into the plastic right? I may order a set from you when i get my new bumper.

Toby did the panel drilling, I did the wiring.

Ive tried to drill them by hand but it takes a great deal of time and effort to accurately plot the holes.

for $300 im pretty sure I can take the time to get out an engineers ruler and drill the holes...

Thats a lot of ketchup packets.

Well, we have one of these, http://www.technology-tool.com/images/DSC00204.JPG

So I don't think drilling the plastic will be a problem, how much did you spend on LEDs?

more importantly where did you order the meterials from ??

Dalton or Toby, if you take the factory foglamp apart (without destroying it), can you successfully install the plate with the LED's in it and reinstall the lense cover? If you can guarantee that, I think I can get this product in motion. Turn around time is not a huge issue because fog's can be removed while customer still has the vehicle. It might be worth me getting an extra set of say 07' Tahoe fogs customized and putting them on display. I figure since I am already successfully selling HID foglamp conversions for $229, these conversions for around the same price should be a walk in the park. Of course, the person or shop doing the conversion will have to come up with competitive wholesale pricing...

I've successfully done it on GM foglight housings that use a plastic lens - my original set was 3.5" diameter panel that has 48 solid LED array.

best place to order from is ledwarehouse or besthongkong. led warehouse is in the US so the parts get here a LOT faster but besthongkong sells the same thing for half the price.

Hell, with that machine manufacturing these things would be a cakewalk. I would suggest a slightly smaller spacing and possibly a double row.

I can drive with 25 leds per side which spec at 40,000mcd, with a neat little bluish green tint over the road. So 60 or 70 leds per side running similar specs should be impressively bright and near halogen replacement.

The leds I used are from besthongkong and they were less than $40 including the voltage regulators. LED warehouse is supposed to have better QC checks and better tolerances but they are more expensive.

If you cut me another panel & order some leds ill wire it for fun and you can bench the brightness vs the oem fogs.

And of course, you are entitled to build whatever you want...I'm just picking on you.

If you're going to build a flasher module, though, maybe you could do something cool with the flash rate...like maybe a variable rate...3 quick flashes, longer pause, 3 quick flashes.

I'm afraid of overzealous LEOs pulling me over for some obscure law about signal lights. And while I enjoy going to court to argue the validity of the citation, I'd rather spend that time making something else.

I'll wire them for free if you cover the cost of the materials(which I will order) and bring me your foglight housings. I really enjoy putting them together.

I'll PM you contact details if you are really interested.
