View Full Version : Getting out of Car Audio business

I still love car audio, and will probably remain a hobbyist for life, I just don't want to install car audio for a living any more. Working on other people's cars has made me not want to work on my own, and that's no good.

In fact, with the way the market has 'gone to hell' (cheap crap, ebay, cheap crap on ebay, big box stores, cheap crap in big box stores, etc.), I really don't even want to sell car audio any more. I'm not sure what I want to do for a living, but its not car audio. I'll probably focus on street rod / old car parts, accessories, and custom stuff off of my CNC. Maybe I'll buy a motor home, and start cruising car shows and swap meets...

So, all my car audio stock is on sale, at discount prices. Don't ask for lists, as I won't post them. If you are looking for something in particular, pm, email or call me. If you are looking for something generally (1000 watt amp, etc.), pm, email, or call me. Or just come by the shop. Pretty much everything will be at or below dealer cost. For those of you who don't know, we carry Treo, Image Dynamics, Pioneer, Crossfire, Critical mass, Powerbass, and Sundown. I also have some other 'stray' stuff...Audiobahn, Oz, lightning, and probably some others.

I'll still be around, and doing whatever I do out of the same location, since I own the building. Going back to standard, M-F 10-6 type hours. So, feel free to shoot me questions, ask for advice, etc. I'll have a new website up soon, with whatever it is I'm going to be doing.

I guess I don't need it anymore, so it might as well be for sale. They sell for $695 new, and they don't really 'wear out'...except mine is missing the suction cup that GalacticMonkey ate. I'll take $500 for it.

That's for the mic, software, juction box, and cables...no laptop. I also have the Termpro RTA software, that I'll throw in, as well.

I'll think about it... I might be interested in just buying it... No groupbuy or anything. All for me.

I might swing by the shop next week after work with a friend. He might be lookin for some cheap stuff to piece together a budget system.

do you still want to do custom car show stuff? If so I can probably send some business your way. NO CHEAP CRAP. I am sponsored by Memphis Car Audio.

Also, The CNCing is the way to go. Please contact me about it I have a few projects that need a good person to run with them.

and good shop equipment for sale?

MCOR
02-15-2008, 10:49 PM
Yes, it is true. The car audio "little guys" have a bigger challenge in this field than ever due to crazy online and "big box" store competition. Diversification is about the only thing that can allow a shop owner to survive (of course unbeatable customer service also). Hell, I have onsite storage now, full detailing, full window tinting, preowned auto sales, wholesale/internet sales of electronics/tint, precut tint kits, oh yeah-and car audio/video/alarms. Although I have tripled my business/overhead/sales through diversification, my personal income has NOT tripled. And yes, I am sadly working more hours too (so are my employees). You almost have to sell accessories, do home theater, home tint, or something just to keep your head above water. Sad to see another one pushed out. I don't plan on going anywhere, but the fight is definately harder than it ever was. Good luck...

Wow, bit of a surprise...you always seemed like a car audio diehard. Can't say I blame you though...I got out of the field for similar reasons.

Getting-out-of-business car audio meet? Just join it up with your "big sale day" for all your car audio stuff?

I dunno, I'd definitely go. Probably end up giving you my final plan size for the MS6 logo plates.

I've got at least one, maybe two router tables that I won't need, and I've got a pretty good industrial sewing machine. You going to be down this way anytime soon?

Here is a picture of the shop up here. The silver vette on the lift is one of the race cars. The Z06 in the foreground is a street car that we are putting race car parts on...that's my job, taking the race car technology, and retailling it to the street. The big red 'wall' in the back is the 58' hauler.

The red 60 bel air in the back right, with the fugly Grease flames is my new project. Also against that back wall is the 572 cu in / 720hp GM crate motor, and the custom all aluminum 708 cu in big block we are building.
