View Full Version : If you have a job...what do you do...and if you don't have a job why not??
I'm fucking bored.........
This type of thread has been around for a while...most of you know what I do. I've been doing it for about 14 years...I am partners of a communications company in Tampa. I was the creator.....we have been in business for almost 5 years now...
I got lucky and was around when computers and the internet started really booming in the early 90's. I'm very fortunate for the things I've been able to do. I have some very loyal customers and I know how to make shit happen.....
I've been plugged into this industry and am pretty notoriusly know for taking projects off the street....I intimidate alot of my industry competetors. I know how to sell a job and not to over sell. Once my customers see what I can do....they usually are quite amazed at the results.
I design/install commercial copper and fiber..voice and data cabling, surveillance camera systems, card access, UPS systems, phone sytems...and just about any other type of low voltage cable. I like large commercial projects....Here is a picture of a nice size data room I built out a couple of years ago....

I do Data Entry for AvMed Health Insurance. Actually if you have AvMed insurance, chances are I've put your case into the computer system so you can have that MRI or CT scan.
It's a thankless, boring, very tedious job. But it gets me paid at the end of the day.
Thank you for asking =)

Did I say that I was fucking bored tonight? wifey sleeping..teenagers out....my 7 yr old watching TV in her room......and I'm up because I took a fucking 3 hr nap today about 2-5...
I used to be a superintendant in Manhattan.....then I ruled a few high dollar rentals in Suffolk County Long Island. I am a master of plaster...marble, tile...plumbing....I ran multiple crews of maintenance guys...landscapers...boiler techs etc...I can do just about anything in a home. I also went in the Navy for 3.5 years...The Navy sucked.....the only thing it did was turn me into a man(and give me OCD).......I went in a punk ass kid from The Bronx.....

I work for a Bank doing financial services. It's a step down from what i used to do, but I'm paying the cost to be the boss right now. I had all the experience but the banking part of the deal. I absolutely slaughter all my peers in performance, which is getting close to paying off.

its for this place called Quality Resorces. they've been around for years. we're only alowd to say whats writen in front of us cuz theres so much legal stuff involved. so we're not alowd to free style at all really. and theres some states where we're not even alowd to ask them twice if they say no. but yeah, its a sliding pay scale. base pay is 10 an hour. but once you start getting to about 70 or 80 sales a week the base pay goes up and there's weekly bonuses and daily also. so its real easy to get up to about 20hr. but they just started putting me on the phones last night. im still training but once i get better i got to earn a desk. so i got to be able to do better then someone else who is bombing out.

<-- Jobless at the moment, but I can't work how I am at the moment anyways, i'm still on crutches and will be for the next 8-10 weeks or so. But will hopefully get to my 'glorious' job bagging at publix, until I turn 18 and can finish my classes at PTEC for automotive refinishing/repairing/estimating/painting/welding, etc. but I think I might not finish that as the industry is getting worse and worse, people wanting the cheapest possible work over quality, so I might start classes for business. I still don't know, was originally gonna join the air force but i'm not sure if I still can. /rant

i am a technical writer. for the last dozen years i've been writing user manuals for software and hardware.
but my current job has me off in a completely different direction. i don't think my boss has a clue what a technical writer does. lol now i am a microsoft sharepoint system/server administrator. as well as a document template designer. as well as administrative assistant. as well as the person who creates all the presentations for the CIO when he meets with the executive board. as well as the training documentation and presentation writer. and finally, as well as the process/procedure/flowchart designer/writer. and to round it all out, i do some graphics and web work as well.
the most interesting part of my job is the times when i have to put together the CIO presentations. the CIO is the challenge. lol

I was laid off in February of 2007 from First American Title in Largo. I'd been in the R.E. Field for about 6.5-7 years. I've done mortgage processing, mortgage lending, loan funding, HUD-1 prep, loan underwriting processing, VA/FHA refi's, condo-conversions, purchases, etc... I've been on the Title side, the Lending side, and the Mortgage Brokerage side. I'm also a certified Notary Public, and have done the physical closings on many occasions.
In February when I was laid off, I got a job working for a Mixed Martial Arts magazine (MMA Authority) here in the Tampa/Clearwater region. I helped them grow exceptionally fast, too fast for our own good actually, and I got them some heavy hitters involved (read: Xyience, Punishment Athletics, etc). I did their marketing, advertising, and PR. I also maintained their MySpace account, and did all the database records for customers, subscribers, and industry professionals. I also did some free lance writing for the magazine as well. We went from a 32 page pamphlet trial run, to a full blown - internationally circulated magazine in a very short amount of time.
Unfortunately, the owner decided that he wasn't going to pay me for my expenses and/or commission due. And I walked away...
So I got myself back into college now, and have recently attempted my hand at a few different things to either a.) make ends meet, or b.) possibly take on a new career. I've done a little bit of landscape management for two local companies, I've done a little bit of automotive detailing as well. Both of these were just some odds and ends to pay the bills while in school. I also tried getting hired as a Pinellas Co. Sheriff - however, my driving record DQ'd me from that job  I've also got my Personal Training Certificate - which I'm doing jack shit with...
CURRENTLY - I'm enrolled in the Cooke Real Estate School to receive my state licensure as a Sales Associate. I've been offered, and accepted, a job at a company in Tampa that purchases foreclosures, remodels them, and sells them to wholesale investors. Sometimes getting the investor an immediate renter as well, to cash flow the property. While I'm in school for my licensure (and also still in College), I'm doing some free lance work for another MMA-based company (which was an account of mine when I worked for the magazine) out in Tampa, called "The Fighter Warehouse" - located on Kennedy. I'm doing some PR and marketing for them, as well as going to help streamline their retail store "point of sale" process w/their inventory.
Tonight I sold a $7,500 package to a local bar (The Slug on Racetrack) to bring Rich "Ace" Franklin (Once UFC Middleweight Champion) to their location for an event. This is just one of the services that The Fighter Warehouse offers, that I can sell and market.
Oh, and I'm carrying a weighted GPA of 3.5 at College, and was just asked to become a member of the National Honor's Society at my school... I'm hoping to continue to make forward progress w/my education, my career, and my experiences in life - as to provide a good foundation to start a family with in the next few years. I'd like to marry my lady, and buy us a home - within the next 18 months. So I've got a lot of work ahead of me :D

Geologist - I work as the laboratory director for a great metropolitan engineering and construction materials testing laboratory. I've been doing that for the past 17 years. If you remember the commercial on TV from a few years ago where a gorilla would jump up and down on Samsonite suitcase and try to destroy it, well, I'm the gorilla. Cliff notes on the job description: Our clients throw things like a concrete block, concrete, asphalt, aggregates, soils, bricks, pilings etc. into my cage and I go postal on it. If it survives, it is good and everybody is happy. We also do a LOT of sinkhole/settlement investigations for insurance companies. Lots of drilling, ground penetrating radar, soil classifications etc.

I'm a Verizon construction, do whatever we need you to do tech. I really like doing what I do, but it tends to be anything but construction lol. (construction - splicing in new cable and terminals or wrecking old cable and terminals etc) - copper side.
They usually have us "on loan" to the repair and installation division. If you order a/many phone lines, I do the installation. When your phone goes out, I come out and find where the problem is and fix it. I'd really like to see them invest more into rehabing problem areas until FIOS is in full effect, instead of just putting bandaids on areas. The fact is, until they do that, problem areas will continue to suffer and that pisses customers off.
There is ALOT that I see almost every day that I'd like to learn about in this field. All in all, I absolutely love my job. It's the fight with the pencil pushers that gets annoying.

my wife and i own a medical supply biz for over 22 years(knock on wood and thank god every day!), like pat said we got in the biz at the right time! Back in the late 80s when people went to the doc , dentist or health care field very little people taking care of people did not wear latex gloves for protection. then in the late 80s , aids(HIV) came about and then osha made a law saying anyone that deals with bodily fluids must wear latex or some kind of medical grade gloves . That happened when we were in biz for only 4 months and we were 1 of 10 companys that sold latex gloves and we blew up over night.
like pat said we take care of our customers like they are family and they have stayed with us the whole time. we have continued to grow every year. we went from 4 products to over 200, do very well with our web site Latexsupply.com and we also have an amazon store (that really kicks azz!)Amazon.com: Polymed®XP Latex* Powder-Free Examination Gloves , LARGE: Health & Personal Care (http://www.amazon.com/Polymed%C2%AEXP-Latex-Powder-Free-Examination-Gloves/dp/B000Y21NBO/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1202057215&sr=8-1) . We have customers all over the us . Im very thank for for what we have and i all ways remember that it could go away as easy as it came!!!! (we stay very grounded )

Been working in the auto insurance claims industry for the past 4 years. Worked my way up to a supervisor position and review claims payment requests for about 30 employees out of our Tampa and Miami offices. Typical day is spent reviewing a claim for liability and coverage issues. I either authorize payment if it is okay or critique the shit out of it and kick it back to the adjuster to work the file until I'm happy with it. I'm hated by the adjusters but loved by upper management...must be doing something right.

Either way, it goes underground, not across a fucking driveway so the customer asks me why their connection is shitty as I look at their 4,000lb car parked on the cable. Ugh, I wanted to smack 90% of the contractors I met that installed for Verizon.

I sit home in the early morning and late evening and create threads on TR to get people talking. Then I watch said posts and other areas around TR to make sure all is well. When it is not going well I Nazi mod the hell out of it ! Next I plan and organize TR events and other misc. smaller events from time to time. It is rewarding when said event is going, it usually is a lot of work leading up to said event. Best of all the pay !
You ready ?
Jack shit for the hours I put in mother bitches ! :lmao:
Best of all you get to have a few people that just plain dislike you for no real good reason. Sure some mods / admin might say things to warrant this but I try not to and hope I am not misunderstood at times. But I would be lying if I said I have not made a lot of online friends ( not you BAMF ! ;) ), some I have met many I have not, and almost all the people I hang out with and call close friends on TR. For that I am grateful.
Oddly enough though I do like planning events, imagine that. :nerd: :tard:
When I am not doing this I am a Realtor of 10 years and a property manager of eight years. I manage 58 residential properties, no I am not a slum lord. 99% of them are $200k+ homes.
Real Estate is of course slower now given the economy but property management has gone through the roof and is why I got into it years ago when others thought I was stupid and should concentrate solely on RE sales. Well many of them are delivering pizza or on there third lifelong career now.
The RE sales side of it has been very good to me, I can not complain. Slower sales now will give me more time to build my property management side. I was lucky that I got in and established before the start to the boom.
I am looking to get into one or two other businesses of some sort in the next year.
There you go, another winded reply from yours truly. :nerd:

We also manufacture many other softgel pharma products, such as those associated with AIDS, and HIV patients. We make many hormone products, cough/cold remedys, and cholesterol drugs. I work overnights on a 2-2-3 schedule which I love, because my weekends off results in every other weekend being off. I am paid quite well and above industry standard, but hey were all underpaid in some fashion. I was once employed by Publix Supermarkets, and was a Bakery Manager for 3 years, and a baker for 4 years. Fucking retail sucks, and that is all. I hate having to kiss little old mother fuggers asses who have nothing more to bitch about then the price of a loaf of bread. I hated it when people would buy 400.00 wedding cake, and bring back a slice, and expect the whole refund, the fucked up thing, is the store manager would in fact refund the money, and make the bakery managers apologize. Thats bullshit, and it mostly came down to a certain class of people that would do it. But now I am much happier now, doing what I do making legal drugs.

In between jobs right now and moving to a new apartment... sucks...
Usually out applying at as many dealerships as I can, when I'm not doing that probably working on one of the cars, either the rust bucket in the garage or the Civic.
Hopefully will have a job in the next few weeks and start bringing money back in, oh and I'm an automotive tech in case you were wondering, aka a dealership mechanic.
It doesn't go one foot underground. :nerd:
minimum should be 18" to the top of the same fiber/conduit.....never happens

It doesn't? How far underground does it go?
Either way, it goes underground, not across a fucking driveway so the customer asks me why their connection is shitty as I look at their 4,000lb car parked on the cable. Ugh, I wanted to smack 90% of the contractors I met that installed for Verizon.
Ehh..copper, I believe, is 30". Fiber..i can't remember. We place the subduct. Or, we did, when there were new subdivisions being built..
Doesn't Verizon pull the fiber themselves?

been unemployed for some time...tried the college thing, not for me. in august i will be going to school to be an automotive tech but until then i cant seem to find a job that is at all related to cars. ive tried dealerships, small shops, tire kindoms, etc. i think it might be because the only thing on my resume is restaurant and im stuck in that field until i get some training.
