thermostat not opening (bad thermostat) not letting the coolant flow through the motor. that is why the upper hose is hot and the bottom one is cool. change out the thermostat to correct this..

well i just replaced the thermostat and it still over heats ne more ideas?

Take the thermostat out and see if it continues to happen.

Which way is your fan spinning? <~ Make sure its going the correct way!!!

It's not your thermostat.
What engine do you have and who did the rebuild and engine install?

Just be sure it is plumbed right. There should be two small hose outlets on the thermo housing before the big outlet for the rad hose. One closest to thermo goes to the heater, the other is the bypass up to the head.
Also, be sure to bleed the air out of the cooling system. Running at idle with the cap loose enough to let air escape usually is enough to do it.
