Need major help launching turbo car.. (more)

Im driving this turbo 300zx (first gen single turbo setup) and really need some tips on launching it. All my friends who drive non turbos are absolutly no help to me since they dont understand that i have to have a little bit of boost built coming off the line or im a dog.

At sunshine speedway last night I pulled a 2.9 60 and a 3.0 60. The first time i just came out spinning the second time I bogged then the boost came and I spun. The first run ended up with a 10.481@76mph. The second run ended up with a 10.001@80 mph.

The car is as follows with mods
stock everything except for a mbc set at 11 psi. It will spike to 12.5-13 in low enough rpm.

Yokohama AVS intermediate 245-50-16s on the back with 19psi.

Stock clutch that still holds well.

open differential.

Ive tried slipping the clutch a bit around 3000 rpm and it will come off nice but then just go into smoke.
Ive tried dropping at 2500 the car lunges forward bogs gets boost and ignites into smoke.
Ive tried launching with partial throttle at like 4200 rpm to try and get moving and still the car will wheelhop and bog... then boost catches and it will light the tires up. It seems once the tires start spinning even if i let off the gas I cant regain traction.

Im not the kind of person with an absolute lead foot. My old non turbo 300zx would pull 2.0 - 2.1 60 times consistently and It required feathering of the clutch until she started moving and then I would dump it completely.

My trap speeds are high enough to let me know that this car has some potential.. I just have to put it to the ground.

Any suggestions??? I know quite a few of you have very fast cars on street tires.

How quick is it? Have you tried starting off normal and then letting the boost come on? Those times could definitely be improved. The only thing I can think of is to keep trying different engine speeds..... Sorry:confused:

Get Slicks!!! It is nearly impossible to launch a high horsepower turbo car on street tires because you launch too low=you bog launch too high=you roast the tires. I had the same problem until I used some sticky road racing tires Yokahama Advans they are made for roadracing but they are just like drag tires when they heat up. I launch my car at 5000rpm and dump the clutch I pulled a 1.976 60 time. Your car does have potential cause when mine ran 13.44@103mph my 1/8 mile mph was 82 pretty close too yours so if you get some sticky tires your car may hit 13s too

Thanks for the help. I know the car has mid 13s in it I stayed right with an LS1 firebird on a public storage road. How much did those tires cost what size are they available in and where do you get them from?? How long do they last?? Im thinking about doing nitto nt 555 They supposedly work well also.
B16Racer - If I were to launch normally lag would eat me alive. The last thing I want is to have to play catch up the whole way down the track although its practically what Im doing already. I mean come on 10 second 1/8 mile and im going 10mph faster then everybody running 10s it makes me sick. I should be doing an 8.8 or better.

Pretty sure you can get em at Discount Tire but they are pricy for the size I have anyway mine are 235/40/17 and they are $173 each new I was lucky enough to find a set used for $200. If you want a good all around daily driver tire get the Drag Radial from nitto You can heat em up just like real slicks and they will bite. And you can ride em every day Good luck

Think about an MSD 2 step...they are perfect for turbo cars. Just find where you get traction...pop in the MSD pill and you will build boost at the line....a nd hold a consistant RPM.

This is why I love having a vG30et. The MSD 6AL with two step module works like a dream =). I just dont have one right now. :(. Oh well. Smoke screen here I come.

The MSD DIS-2 is what us distributorles DSM guys use. Teal Talon will attest to the fact that it works well.

I pity the fool that messes with mah 2-Step.

It works very well but traction isnt one of my big concerns. 7PSI of boost at the line.

If you put slicks on that thing it will either bog more or wheel hop more those cars are some of the trickiest to launch. I would experiment with skinnier tires and let them spin a little it will keep it in boost for the next gear. I am just going by how my friend used to launch his 87 just let the damn tires spin.That mph is pretty high you have 4mph on me in the 1/8th(when I was at 10psi running 14 now) but I had a 9.6 et. See how much of a difference a decent launch can make. I would say if you get that 60 below 2.2 you should be able to run like a 13.9 and a 9 flat in the 1/8th. But those cars are not dragracers midrange is their forte.

I would also like a 2 step for a distributor type ignition. Does MSD make one? I want boost at the line too!
