I bought a pair of kenwoods from a guy off here with a 1000 wat kenwood amp. So i went to an audio shop to check on a set of tweeters and they wanted to here them. They pretty much told me that i was suckered and that I should sell those subs and try buyin some of there JL audio stuff like tha W3's or 1's but, i figured he was feedin me some bullshit so i was like no thanx eh then started sayin that tha box wasn't worth a shit either and that he could build me a custom box that would match tha airflow for my speakers and they would sound a hell of a lot better so I figured I would ask someone about this who isn't gonna BS their way into my wallet. So guys help me out was anything they were tellin me about tha W3's true are they worth it or is kenwood a good brand? And would a custom box built for my subs "airflow" bullshit or true? Rep will be whored for help!!!!

Um, its saturday and most people in AHQ have a life.

Kenwoods are probably the worst kind of subwoofer you can buy. I would take a set of Sony explodes over kenwood.

The kenwood amp is ok, Kenwood focuses more on keeping the THQ low at moderate ohms but you wont see 1000 watts unless you are rolling at 1ohm and you are probably looking at 1% THQ at 1ohm (this isnt good, but isnt hte worst)

Kenwoods arent known for their quality.... Id probably sell the stuff for as much as you can and do something like a single nicer 12. Somethin like a Fi SSD or something.

I get the viewing thing, but Vb has little flaws like it cant tell if someone is idle, or if they are actually viewing. Since I have two laptops I leave one open on AHQ all the time yet I only look every two hours or so.

i'd wire everything up, toss them in the back of the stang listen see what you think, if you like the way it sounds keep them. if not upgrade.

i currently have an old pioneer 10 in a bandpass box hooked up to a little 300ish watt alpine, i was told it would sound like shit but it adds just enough bass to my stereo to make me happy for now. everyones ear is a little different.

you alread have it so why not hook it up and see what you think.

W3s are very nice subs, never hear anything nice about the Kenwoods.. but it's about what you like.. so hook them up and if you like the Kenwoods keep them. If you don't try a new box. And if you still don't then try new subs.

Not to mention the google crawler bumps into the post every once in a while, and "guests" visit the page, but can't post.

Yeah, the stereo guy just wanted you to buy his crap, and was rather assy about it. Kenwoods aren't much good at anything besides being inexpensive and barely decent for home audio. There are a lot of other better brands, but it all depends on your budget.

It doesn't necessarily have to be louder, it could be clearer and sound generally better quality.

I'd work with what you have and try to build a better box for the 12s.

sell the kenwoods and if your willing to spend a little more on the w'3s then do it, cause jl makes the best quality subs around. but imo keep the amp

If you like the way it sounds, then leave it. A properly made and tuned box can make a world of difference though. Even for the kenwoods.

Even though we deal Kenwood, we only do because some still ask for it by name (mainly headunits though). All experience I have had with their subs could be classed with "all the rest". Never performed better than any other run of the mill subs but no one ever had any complaints after the install either. If they sound good to you, run with it. As far as custom box, I don't know if I would spend the extra money on someone else doing it just for the Kenwoods. Prefab boxes with the correct air volume will be adequate and save you about $150. If you are stepping up into a JL or some other comp. type subs, then the custom box $$'s will be worth it...
