Is there going to be anymore drift events at the Ocala track? I was thinking about it last night, I love Desoto, but I was wondering if there was plans for any ocala DGtrials events? :] Thanks

No. Stop asking.
That doesn't mean that there aren't a jillion other places that can host us.
Well it would be cool if there was one in that area. shorter drive for me!

^or just have more desoto events?
Ranlet - anymore courses LIKE Ocala around that CAN/WILL host DGtrials events that I wont have to drive bazillion miles to attend?

Why are you guys complaining?
Without the ovals, you guys wouldn't even have events to be driving at.
People complain when there is no events, then they complain when it's ovals.

Its great we are having events, but its been about 2 years for the most part I htink since the tampa area has had something other than oval. The only other events have been moroso which is a good 3 hour drive to use the small skid pad or go baller on the road course or Countyline drag way on whatever little course they had there.
Ovals are getting monotous to me just as a specator, Desoto is a little better with its wider and nicer in field, but a parking lot event is great cause you can design whatever course you want. Plus more ppl have destroyed their cars on the ovals than any other event. Its just really time for something different, maybe not a monthly event, just something different just once or twice.

tampa was supposed to have Trop Field few months back but everyone was a pussy and didnt do it. that is all i can say about that.
and f--k the people who shut down primus.
I'll find us something.
but funny enough, this is the SAME thing that happened before.... no events, then oval events, no one likes so no events.... people got bored and we went back to ovals, people liked it, then they are starting to get bored again.

There are still many lines that haven't been driven at Desoto. Tropicana Field would have been sweet, but I guess not too many Tampa people thought it was worth $100, which it was.

There hasn't been a whole lot of incentive for me to set up events recently, and I've been terribly busy. In the first few weeks of 2008 I plan on mounting a full assult to resurge non-oval events in FL.
Tropicana: JC and I figured out a good course for it, but proximity to other events and a high level of costs made it difficult, at best, to run.
Huge lot on MLK: It's owned by the Bucs. I've been trying to get it forever and am still trying.
I have a massive list of venues that need the I's dotted and the T's crossed. The problem is that doing events is not a profitable endeavor. Many times even at full registration there is very little or no money left over. There have been instances where I've needed to set aside hundreds of dollars from my own pocket to ensure that an event will go on as planned (I'm not looking for anything but drifting in return regardless). Mix this financial uncertianty with the hours spent tracking down, scoping out, and setting up a venue and event and you end up commiting a lot of resources. If you don't have those resources, events don't happen.
Big ups to those who do put on events, and I'd strongly suggest that people don't speak poorly about ____, because love it or hate it at least having something at all is a step in the right direction.

Last time i drifted at Ocala... there were too many LAWNMOWERS! ( people who go off track ) seemed every second someone was going off track, and they didnt let off throttle to get on track they just kept the foot in and tore up the grass. So im sure that pissed off the Track owners.
ohh and its 85 bucks to drift there... kinda pricey for a narrow cart track but fun.

is that why ocala is no more? because of the grass getting torn up, or did something else happen??

everytime you go off track, the edge gets worn.... the inside edge of turn 1 was very poor condition. The fact that a few almost ramped into the road of the birm might also hinder us lol.

Yeah...don't hold your breath for Ocala or Primus.

Maybe I have no place to say anything here, but it looked like on Sunday there were about 20-23 people that shouldn't be worried about where they are drifting, as long as they have a place.

i know what you are saying and you have to remember that the thing is with a course layed out, its hard to look like you can drift at all unless you are really good. this is because a course is layed out to only be done with a certain amount of flexibility in the line/speed where as open course you can chose what you wanna do for the most part.
trust me, those cones change how you drive sometimes. i agree tho, track time is track time. i wanna goto osw, been a long time since i was there :)

Some time early 2008.
Regarding the price - motorsport costs money. If you want something with more variety and safety than an oval you're most likely going to have to shell out $85/day or more. Just be happy that prices haven't run up into the $350/day range not including membership and licensing fees like at Chin, SAFE, and open track events.

The tropicana field event would've been awesome and that was like what 120.00+ I cant remember. That was perfectly ok because the course was baller and it was NOT an oval. but I'm looking forward to early 08' I guess.

Oh...here some new news maybe, the Feb. 16th event at Moroso has turned into a Nopi Licensing event. Saw that on sfldrift so thats pretty sweet.

Does anyone know how long of a drive it is from Ocala to Moroso?
onezx2ner
01-20-2008, 02:46 PM
It is pretty far. I pull my car from just about Ocala and it sucks, especially driving down then driving the event and of course home. So much driving in a short period of time.

the route i take and speed i travel takes a lil over 3 hours i think from largo (just south of tampa) and about 1.5 hours to ocala? so you're looking at about 4.5 or more hours maybe? you should post of sfldrifters.com about needing a place to stay if you dont wanna drive home right away. or hotel it with another crew.
