Have you ever tried insect macros?
There's this little spider that has been running around my place for about a week. I was talking to a guy that does amazing insect macros a few months back and he was explaining how it's standard procedure to catch these spiders (and some other bugs, not all) and put them in the freezer for a couple of hours. That way when you pull them out you can place them on a background of your choice and take your macro shots without it running away... at least until it warms up a little. :D

That's how we used to put the goldfish to rest. I couldn't see flushing them. :)

Hm, interesting use of the idea.
The idea with the spiders, however, is not to kill them. You literally just get them really cold and they move slow until they're warm again. It sounds cruel... and it probably is, but at least they're not getting killed.

Nah...too small. Have you seen my kid? That'd never feed him.
They say that freezing to death is the easiest way to go. Who the hell tested that theory...beats me LOL

Shouldn't the whole object be in focus, not just like 1/4th of it?
Michael.

thats why its macro...

I'm not saying the whole photo be in focus but for example in the first shot, shouldn't the whole screw be in focus and everything else blurred? Not just one little part of the screw?

I'm thinking along the same lines..^

Its actually a screw. And because of the size of the screw, it would blur part of it.
Is it really that big of a deal?

IMO all the majority of the shots have this effect, where the focus isn't dominant on the subject and the blurred sections are overbearing.

its not a problem with him, the camera or the lens. those are all perfectly fine. its just natural for a macro lens. thats just how they turn out, because of the focal length. dont ask me the technical side of it, but its perfectly normal to look like that, i promise! haha
if i find time i'll search a bunch of macro shots and post em up

When you get into macro ranges it's not uncommon to start measuring DOF in millimeters. You can always blend exposures I guess.
