i have a 04 altims, took the radio from my neon that worked perfect into the altima and it gets horrable radio reception, bought a flip out and the same thing, had a 3rd cd player and still again bad reception, problem i hear is because the antenna is built into the back window.is there any wy or thing to get to help radio reception with an after market cd player?

Did you have terrible reception with the stock altimA radio?

you probably have a factory antenna power on wire that needs to be hooked up. Check the interface harness for something that says "amp turn on" or " power antenna turn on" and make sure it is correctly wired to your head unit.

you may also have a poor ground from the factory harness, try running a new ground wire directly to the chassis at a sanded point.

try another antenna adapter. Normally, I wouldn't have mentioned this, but I just did an avic-n4 in a chrysler minivan that had the same problem...turned out to be the adapter.

I'm going to jump in on this thread and say the same thing.
Dalt/Toby - I have the same thing in my 99 civic. Original radio seemed fine, however aftermarket deck has bad reception.

From what I've seen, I didn't think honda used antenna adapters.

Honda's do not, so that would not be your problem. In your case, I'd check the ground, like Dalton said. Or, it could be your deck.

Interestingly enough, I have had lots of complaints about reception over the last year or so, even on factory radios. People say that it has just gotten worse. I don't listen to regular radio, so I don't have a reference. Maybe it is something to do with transmitting power, sharing with HD, ?

I don't listen to radio. It sucks. I have no idea what radio should sound like in my car.

I don't listen to regular radio,

AMEN...

Yea, the only reason I flip on the radio is because the wife likes it and she can't stand dance music 24/7. go figure

pretty sure HD is cutting in on the fun. in order to multicast, most station of probably either cut down the broadcast power of their FM1 or narrowed its range to make room for HD1 and HD2

Couple of things to check. Some people just figure that because Nissan has two antennae connections, the second smaller one is not necessary so they do not use an antennae adapter. You need the Metra 40-NI10 adapter. And also as was mentioned, you need to hook up your power antennae wire from the aftermarket headunit to the Metra 70-7550 adapter harness. If you are not using an interface harness and just "hardwiring" the aftermarket stereo in, hook it to the altima's (usually) green wire, pin number 5. This will completely fix your problem. I get this non-stop when the kids up the street at the high school play johnny do-it-yourself weekend stereo installer.

Or, it's a conspiracy, between the radio stations and the HD radio manufacturers.....cut down on the FM power, push the HD radios....everybody switches....they all get richer.....

My reception got worse with my Alpine HU too......

Cept HD isnt really profitable. To retrofit their broadcast equipment is pricey and in the end its still just radio.

For some reason, the FCC is requiring all digital radio broadcasts in like 10 years and thats the reason for it.
