OK well I have all my wiring done and when to install the sub last night and today I am having a slight problem. When I turn the volume up about 1/2 on my deck or turn the DB controller for the amp up I get a thump. This doesnt sound like a good thump but as if it is hitting something in front of it. I am thinking I need to re-tune my amp now that i have more power but what do you think?
By the way I am using a 1000/1 Jl AMP and a 13W7 series Subwoofer

the sub could be bottoming out. or you could have burnt up a voice coil. hard to tell without hearing it

ok I just drove home for lunch and it seems that when the bass is really high it bottoms out on itself. I am going to try and retun my amp because there is more power going to my amp now so I think I am over powering the amp and in return making the sub sound like crap. What do you guys think?

Your wiring might be sending the amp into protect mode.
- the sub is wired to a very low ohm load
or
- you are not using adequate power and ground leads
or
- you are using too high of a signal voltage (high level outputs -> RCA?)

- the sub is wired to a very low ohm load
(this could be) I wired it in Parallel so I think it is at .75ohms which I think is bad now that I thinkn about it. Because the amp is stable at 1 ohm only.

Power lead is good, Ground is also very good
- you are using too high of a signal voltage (high level outputs -> RCA?)
I am using the signal wire off my head unit.

Lol wtf?
your talking about the remote wire when you say signal wire right?

no.
sound output source (ie, RCAs, that's why he put it in parentheses)

oh haha, i never heard of too much through the RCAs before, oops sorry.

My guess is that you are over driving the amp, causing it to distort. When this happens, you start sending a square wave to the sub, which can make it sound like it is hitting something (kind of a 'barrank' sound). Turn down your gain, and see if it is still happening.

I turned down the input signal strength and it helped me out, just isnt as loud as it is now. If it gets too loud its like the wave inside the box hits itself and distorts as if the sub was busted. It works for now so I will figure it out later :) if anyone wants to guess at it list the things and I will go one by one

Lol wtf?
If you wire the high outs form a deck to RCAs, it will work at very low volumes and fuck up at high volumes.

I still dont understand

I can only see it working at very low volumes.

I still dont understand
high level output is an amped signal from the headunit that varies from 0-20v. the low lvel input on your amp is designed for 0-4v maybe 8v but no more than that.
I doubt thats the problem unless you have a high to low level converter box that has the gains turned all the way up on it.

ok, well I have a setting on my amp for signal strenth power, is that what your talking about, I dont see how I could mess up RCA's from the deck to the amp LOL

I think you have your 1.5ohm coils wired in parallel whicn is too low for a 1000/1
italiancorolla

yes in fact I do have them running parallel which I just realized is .75 ohms. Series would give me 3ohms, is this right?

yeah... From what I read, the 1000/1 is a 1.5ohm stable amp so that would probably be the reason you are getting the pop. I think its designed to run dual 13w7s.

that would make sense because the 13w7 is 1.5 ohms stable, so (2) 13w7 in series would run exactly 1.5 ohms each. So I guess I will change my wiring back to series for my single 13w7 and run it at the 3 ohms :) THANKS

Lol... .75 on the JL.. my JLs got pissed at @ 1ohm.

well guys I switched my sub to series instead of parallel and wah la it now works. And man can it push some air volume at high volume, even at low volume and high DB :)

haven't really followed the thead, but a ground loop with the antanea may be causing some problems.

sweet, bring it out to the meet so we can see what kinda numbers it puts out... And we can see the magic of ohmage.

I want to come out to the meet where a toy gets a sound reading. I have a show in lakeland that same day till 6 so after that I want to drive to the meet :). I cant promiss any numbers because honestly I built it and it is def not tuned to any Hz or stuff like that, just to where it sounds good to my ears :)

No one cares what numbers you bump out man, it's if you've put effort into it and YOU like it. That's what we'll respect.;)
Shit, I'm rolling out there with my stock Bose stereo :lol:
I just like going to the meets.
