Hey I have a 98 Dakota with a 2.5L 4-cyl... is this the same motor that was the base for TI TII or TIII engines?? wait I know its not the TIII cause they were DOHC or something right?

Well anyways I want to get more power out of this 4-cyl and besides swapping in a new motor what can I do?

I know the earlier 4 cyl Dakotas shared the same basic engine config as the Turbo Dodges of the same era. I am not sure about a 1998. I doubt you will be able to swap in an earlier Turbo engine without changing all the electronics.

The TIIIs were DOHC 16V engines the TI and TII were SOHC 8Vs. The TIIIs are rare and expensive. However they also offer the most ultimate potential if you have relatively deep pockets. The 8Vers are the way to go otherwise as any junkyard in town will have all the spare parts youll need. http://www.tamparacing.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I will check on with some other guys from the Turbo Dodge lists and see what they ahve to say about the swap you are proposing. Short of turboing the truck theres not much youre going to be able to do to get any decent power out of the engine thats in there. Unless you feel like running nitrous http://www.tamparacing.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanks Larry I kinda guessed you would be the one to talk to here http://www.tamparacing.com/ubb/smile.gif

The only problem with modifying this truck is that it will totally void the 5 year bumper to bumper warrantee I just got for an extra chunk of $$$... maybe I should just look for a better donor vehicle do you know anyone with a shadow or daytona or something fun maybe (preferably) with a turbo setup already installed for sale cheap??

I am trying to sell my old V8 Dart to get out of some debt then ill be able to play again with a whole new project http://www.tamparacing.com/ubb/smile.gif

Id get something else and work with it. Its not worth voiding the warranty on your truck.

I might have a friend in St. Pete with a turbo Dodge (Daytona) for sale. Last I knew it was ready to rock and already had some performance stuff done to it including a better turbo. Ill email him and see whats going on with it.

Did you find anything yet.... Ill forward anything I get on the dodge lists to you. there were several in the Fl area earlier this month. Stay away from a daytona if weight is important to you... Get a P (shadow/sundance) or an L (omni/charger)body to work with. The Omnis weigh in at under 2500 w/ turbo... chargers 2550 P bodies are about 2750. If you get a basic TI (non intercooled car) the conversion to TII isnt that difficult no matter what some peoples experience might suggest http://www.tamparacing.com/ubb/wink.gif hehehe

either 4sfed or I can tell you more than you need to know!!!

And...who might some people be? hehehehehehe.

In all seriousness the basic T1 to T2 conversion is easy. 4SFED has been a whole different situation since I changed alot more than just the basics required to go T2.
