HPI has a car out that is very reasonably priced you get what you pay for but its not bad at all it doesnt take much to get a car setup to drift not a bad deal for a ready to run car for someone looking to get into it kinda sucks the bodies are prepainted but it is what it is....

just a sprint, but it worked well for drifting, and I'm pretty sure the reason i stopped messing around with it is cause all my batteries only hold about 2mins of charge each lol

check out tower hobbies they have some pretty damn cheap batteries the mah's are not that great on them but your not racing so its not really THAT big of a deal for drifting an they are about $15-$20 a pack

i had the xmod skyline, with the headlight/taillight mod, the AWD, better tires and the high-torque transmission lol. i spent like $180 on that damn thing. I wanna get into this RC drifting though, I saw someone at QSL with a 240, and then a guy at CCC had one and was drifting it around, looked fun.

A few years ago, a friend of mine and me were addicted to F'n around with our Kyosho Mini-Z's. 1/24 scale hobby level RC cars. We fitted model car bodies on 'em. And we even built a fold out track in my garage, and sometimes we'd build tracks on the floor and have people bring their cars over and junk. Was fun. I made a crappy site for it. It's Still around! This was like 8 years ago! haha. I don't think any of the info is current as neither one of us had updated it in years.

(that looks like my old svt haha) anyways your familiar with the mini z's did you ever know of franks trains and hobbies? we raced mini z's their every night best racing ever so much god damn fun!! high banked oval and infield road course with an overlander off road course set up cool stuff lap counters an all miss those days! kyosho kinda fell through with that stuff though , never having the parts in stock discontinuing this an that , that awd mini z they came out with was sweet though....

as for xmods...... as much money as you put into those things your better off starting off ahead of the game getting mini z's on top of that they ARE digital proportional steering if xmods claims to be its a trashy setup...

check around on ebay to for potential drift cars now associated as the tc5 out the tc3's should be pretty cheap to come by and most parts are interchangable with the tc4 or of course you can find an RTR kit off towerhobbies or whatever.....

well have some more material as soon as i get my shit in , waiting for a rebuild kit for my diff so i can get my car back in order until than its just gonna be the ztune and trueno footage for about week or so

ronnie setsers custom car / body shop like a block south west of the interstate on dale mabry behind that stero shop he has 2 dirt tracks and just got a street course going im sure he would let us have drift sessions on it im almost positive he would , we race the dirt oval (its like a hard packed clay an race street based cars not off road) every friday nights alot of fun!

I still have my XMOD.... it was really cool. I had a 67 Camaro or whatever when they first came out and put better tires on it and the AWD kit. One day me and a buddy drag-raced them back in highschool, but when they got out of signal range mine swerved and hit a joint on the concrete sideways and began a deathroll for about 10 feet. So I went and bought suspension, motors, trans, stronger reciever, and a supra shell (w/ body kit...I know). I had it like that for about 6 months and drifted it on my wood floors, but I took it to a tennis court right after a light rain and was drifting until it found another crack.... I never fixed it, think I might try to find it now.

This reminds me I need to get mine back out again. They just repaved the roads in my neighborhood so the streets should be pretty smooth. :)

I'll also see about taking some pics. I have a nice never used Lexus IS300 body to put on it. It's the Carbon Fiber HKS widebody from a few years ago.

the way i see it..... you put money into some intertainment.. and it keeps you occupied an your not out spending money, the method works for me the initial investment always sucks with everything...
i found a pic of my xmod i broke down an bought w/dirft tires when radio shack had them on sale for like 25$ or somethin last christmas

ugh man i wanna get into this sooo bad. dane let me buy yours dude if you want to drift, an electric one is the way to go, mine needs alot of space to drift since it does about 54mph, it used to do like 65 with the stock gearing lol. i can drift it pretty good now, i put in the 0 degree rear axle carriers and can controll the throttle and steering pretty good. itll take off quick if you arent careful. my friend, abhi has a kyosho electric one that he only used a few times, i think its like 5 years old or more though, hed prolly sell it to you if you want an electric one.

electric is by far the way to go ,
nitro is just to much power you never really see and plus it looks better if your gonna record it...
just keep in mine im not sure what kind of hobby shops you have around your place but alot of places dont carry a big line of tamiya stuff , so if you break something or need something chances are your gonna be ordering it online, then alot of times leading to a shelf queen because it gets put off but if you can get parts for it or dont mind ordering an what not its alllll good

Doctor D

the hobby shop by my house carries alot of team associated parts, and a good variety of different brands of parts. and they are pretty good about getting parts in stock next day if you ask for them. . im kinda tempted to pick up a tc4...i saw a few tc3's in stock down there

is that the hpi rs4 evo deal?

and if any of you guys are in tampa area , all this weekend they are doing a big road course race at the track , should be lots of 1/8th scale cars (bad ass!) and probably 10th scale as well , its about a block south of the interstate on dale mabry on the west side behind the stereo shop if you get bored or looking for something to do go check it out. just little heads up

nitro 4tec 2.5. i just use the tireshine/water to save tires and get the initial slide going. works really good on any surface, but the tires run out way to quick.

cool deal man lemme know how they work out for you, the car im running now is my electric tc3 with the 5.5 brushelss setup es pretty much equivilant to the nitro cars actually i think it would spank my nitro car but whatever its WAYYYYYYYY over powered for drifting im using polyethlene tires this guy does sells them on ebay for full set about 10$ shipped they work really well for stock electric cars,

Doctor D
12-02-2007, 05:35 PM
yea i just like the nitro cars cause they always have the same power, my experience with electric cars is that they lose power quickly.

im starting to get the hang of drifting my nitro, floor it for a second, cut the wheel toward the turn, let off a little, countersteer and give it some gas. works pretty good.

EroticA

drift tires? damn we just super glue pvc pipe cut to fit the wheels and that works great

Doctor D

well they are like regular tires, but harder so i can still drive it in a straight line.

therefore its probably not going to drift very well dane lol

Doctor D
12-03-2007, 12:41 PM
my nitro car goes too fast to use bald hard plastic tires. i would have to do like 5mph to use those and it would just lose control and would not work at all. these tires wont lose control when you try to drift at high speeds.

true that ,
pvc is a really good way to teach yourself control but if you wanna drive around an drift into turns an have a realistic look forget about it its like driving on ice with bald tires..
the polyethlene tires are like pvc its a pipe but its got a bit of grip to it my buddy runs them on his stock electric setup hes got going on an it works great!

thats only if your on really smooth pavement though. if were just doing it on rough ass parking lot or street then its different
