Has anyone bypassed one of these? Just wanting to know which method I have read about online is the one to try.

theres two ways to do it one makes the nav useless the other is where you have to take the unit apart and solder two terminals together
the easy way is to ground the parkingbrake wire and mount the nav brain sideways

there is also a switch on the bottom of the deck (under a sticker), but this voids warranty like everything else so good luck.
Edit: this might be for the N3 ONLY

I can't remember if the all the N2's had the switch, or if some still needed to be soldered. Either way, its not all that difficult, but it technically does void the warranty. I'd deifinitely make sure that your unit has at least had the ribbon cable repair (if needed) before you bypass it. Otherwise, you run the risk of not getting it repaired for free. I think the Pioneer website still has a list of units requiring the repair.

You have to remote the silver sticker on the bottom of the unit and solder the two R197 contacts together. I must warn however, many of the refurb units or units that have been sent in for repair have had the contact points ground off by Pioneer. If that is the case with yours, the unit has to be dissassembled and soldered from the inside. Not something for a novice user-very easy to ruin the deck.
Here is the breakout for the N bypasses:
N1= park brake wire ground
N2= solder the two R197 contact points together under the silver sticker and ground the park brake wire.
N3= slide the switch that is under the silver sticker and ground the park brake wire.
Again, I have seen many units where novice users have attempted the solder trick with their "WalMart" soldering kit turned to high and ended up melting the contacts off, or soldering them to the case, etc. Be VERY careful or you will end up with an expensive paperweight...
