the kickers hav 5000 watt rms 10000 watt peak each, and the type r have 500 rms and 1500 peak eack so i really dont cause i never herd either... anyone want to help me out on this one?

Google is your friend.

Two Kicker SoloX 18"
Total surface area = .2852 meters square
Maximum volume displacement = .007 cubic meters

Six Alpine Type R 12"
Total surface area = .288 meters square
Maximum volume displacement = .0052 cubic meters

The two soloX will obviously out perform six Alpine Type R in at theoretical output. Its a little fishy though because the kicker lists only the EXmax value and not the Xmax so it may be inaccurate since the margin for error is relatively large compared to the numbers.

6 12's would sound better for overall use, the 18's are to boomy......
the amount of power would have a great deal on which one was "louder"

How much room you got and power on hand? You can get the 6 type-rs alot louder.

They are not physically capable of being louder, nor cleaner. There is no way to synchronize six woofers as accurately as two regardless of the size difference.

doesnt toby have something with 6 12s in it..

First, we are assuming that by 'better', crxskater25 means 'louder'. Lets start there, and lets also assume that by 'louder' we mean higher max SPL, regardless of frequency.

On paper, assuming you can have enough power to drive either combo to max excursion, at the peak frequency of the vehicle cabin gain, in an enclosure that maximizes this frequency, and you have enough space for this enclosure, the 2 18's will be louder, given that they have more maximum volume displacement (provided the specs are accurate). Again, that's on paper.

Further, Dalton is right, even slight phase differences in the woofers will cause cancellation. There is really nothing, in practical terms, that can be done about this, and the more woofers you have, the more likely you are to have cancellation.

In the real world, there is just not enough information here, to say which will be louder. We don't know what type of vehicle, how much room is available for an enclosure, how much room will be left to energize, how much power there will be, etc., etc.

So, even though theoretically the 12's can not be louder, given the ideal conditions I mentioned above, it is entirely possible that they could be louder (maybe even much louder) in this application.

Short answer to the original question:

wat would be better, 2 kicker 18"s or 6 12" alpine type rs ?

I Dunno...:D

from personal experience... (16 audipipe 12's in a halo around the cabin of my delivery truck with 30,000 some odd watt's) 2 solos can be made to be "louder" (move more air) than that of 6 alpines... the bread truck could only muster a 150.5 db on a iasca meter. it was a street jammers event.. if anyone remembers those..

Only 150.5dB off 16 12's,I would of expected much higher numbers.

150 db with no freq peak is a pretty much useless number.

well think ups truck... that what it was... had no ability to seal up. and that number was over a 30 second time period. it was a termpro meter also.. i know where the truck is but i dont know if any of the boxes are still inside. its parked next to xterme customs (this is in no way an endorsement of wild bill) in the mobil gas station on us19, across from the ihop and shell.. it says international audio down the side.. it was a looker.. too bad we never took any pictures of it.. im trying to get ahold of ed eason. he built it so he may have a few good shots of it..

either i would say if your looking to spend the money and time to build the box for the 18s then go for it.. you only need a box 20 inch tall 3 feet wide and 3 feet deep.. i think.. that what i saw in my friend Camry.. lol. but never got the subs... soo think about the price... 18s are between 800-1500 dollars each.. and the power would be about another 1k if not more.. and the Type Rs are cleaner bass by FAR!! so its up to you.. you could get alot higher with the 6 12s any day.. just matters on the box you build and how much power you have to everything!! hope that help ya out if at all lol later
