Just a heads up to all the people that think they want to enter, I really hope you have some money saved up.

Read the rules on the D1 site, you can't have a single leak anywhere, any car over 10 years old must have wheel bearings serviced within the past year, pretty sure it says something about external kill switch, and so many more rules.

- Driver who had D1 license before and it expired, who must re-new a license from his/her original

For the D1 Judging Criteria
To participate in the D1 Grand Prix USA event, competitors must first obtain a D1 license at a D1 Driver Search event, or Ikaten. The Ikaten tradition is much the same in today's contemporary version in which D1GP judges evaluate amateur, up-and-coming drivers to give them a chance to qualify for a D1 license and compete in D1 competitions. The driving skills at the competition level in D1 are quite high and only the drivers exhibiting the highest skills, safety and showmanship are permitted to possess a coveted D1GP competitor license.

D1 judges evaluate speed, angle of attack and vehicle control and factors like slowing to the point of hindering the other driver, running into another car or spinning out mean an automatic loss of the run. To advance to the next round, drivers use tactics such as putting pressure on an opponent through a more aggressive drift angle, carrying a higher speed through a corner, and showing good strategy. Judges are thoroughly familiar with the capabilities of each competitor's car and if the driver is not pushing the car to the limit, they will be eliminated from the round. In spite of the high stakes and close competition, D1GP drivers are expected to exercise outstanding showmanship and a professional code of conduct, or ”warrior etiquette", that make D1GP competitions the most exciting and dramatic of all drift competitions in the world.

Points determining a driver's final score are awarded on following elements:
1. Angle
2. Speed
3. Line - closer to race line clipping points is better
4. Throttle position - wide open throttle is better
5. Whether the vehicle accelerates on the straightway

DriftBox Pro:
The D1 Grand Prix judging system has been further enhanced with the recent introduction of the DriftBox Pro in all D1GP competitions, including USA rounds. The DriftBox Pro is a real-time telemetry device that was originally developed for use in the D1 Grand Prix series to assist the judges’ award points during the competition, and has become in effect the fourth "Judge". Every team that competes in D1 is provided with an official DriftBox Pro mounting bracket to allow the DriftBox Pro to be fitted for each run. The judges receive real-time data for each corner based on entry speed, drift angle and cornering force. Cornering force is used to judge how well the car is setup, the higher the cornering force, the more power and skill need to slide the vehicle.

Qualifying Round:
D1 Grand Prix events always start with a qualifying round and they usually take place a day before the main D1 event. Only D1 license holders are allowed to participate in qualifying rounds and the top 10 drivers in series ranking at that time (series ranking of the previous year if it's the first round of a new season) are considered seeded and are exempt from the qualifying round.
The drivers are judged in solo runs during the qualifying round and they are given 2 to 3 judged runs. The highest score out of those 2 or 3 runs is used to determine the final ranking within that qualifier and the top scoring drivers are then advanced in score order to the open spots in the competition (usually 20 vacancies in each competition).

D1 Grand Prix Main Competition Event:
On main event day, the top 20 drivers from the previous qualifying session, plus the 10 seeded drivers, start the competition in one-up judged elimination runs in order to whittle the field down to the best 16 drivers.

After these top 16 drivers are selected, the Tsuiso (Tandem Run)or "Best 16", heads-up eliminations start. The competitors who make it to the Tsuiso, run door-handle-to-door-handle, going against each other two cars at a time (also called tandem runs). Drivers are paired up based on their single run scores (1st vs 16th, 2nd vs 15th, 3rd vs 14th, etc), which makes the elimination round battles closer and more exciting as they progress. As the elimination rounds progress, one driver is eliminated from each run so from Best 16, it goes to Best 8, then Semi-Finals (4 drivers), then Finals (last two drivers) until a winner is declared. The podium will include the winner and runner-up and the highest scoring driver from the two eliminated in the semi-finals takes third place. If the two drivers eliminated in the semi-finals have an equal score, a run-off round is run to determine 3rd place.

I heard that D1 requested 180km/h entry speed, which is about 110mph, which is awesome.
Everyone needs to go to Moroso this Saturday night.

the entry at D1 vegas was about that. they were coming right by the wall where i tried to stand to take pics, panning a car coming that close to you, that fast at 20mm is pretty damn hard.
