You sure they're citing 1000 watts RMS and not 1000 watts PEAK power?

huge difference.

They do handle 1000wRMS. Where are they shown to handle less otherwise? It's probably a car audio forum like this one. They might be mentioning that although it is stated to handle it, in real world applications the woofer might actually be rather crappy and can't handle the power well?

Link us to some examples? That might help.

Oh, and welcome to the forum. :)

Stop thinking of it like its a fixed number. Even if the sub cant handle 1000 watts, you will hear it distort once it reaches its maximum capacity.

Audiobahn is notorious for over-rating their products. I personally wouldn't throw more than 800w rms at each sub. 600 comfortably.

Number goes down as the subwoofer heats up doesn't it? It reduces its efficiency until it becomes overheated.

Get a 1000 watts see if it can take it. I mean most people that use Audiobahn products probally clip their subs so they say it can only take so much. I willing to bet it could take 1000watts dailly.....clean power tho.

Get an amp close to the power ratings and see what you can get it to do. If it blows, well, you have reason to upgrade.

This is just my personal opinion but I think Audiobahn is way over rated, people seem to like it because of all the advertising they have done over the years but I have never seen and heard an Audiobahn system that impressed me in any way and I believe they do over rate the wattage handling capabilities of their highend subwoofers. I have sold it in the past and it sells well but that is the only good thing about it in my opinion. So another words if you want it to last I would not recomend putting anything over 800 RMS to it.

I have a 10" subwoofer sitting in my backyard shack that would beg to differ.

Actually yeah, i agree their newer stuff is sucking more and more.

Oh well. I'm definitely planning on using this 10"er soon, maybe install it in my mom's car or something, just for kicks.

Thats where it belongs, in your MOMs car so she can get a little bit of bass that will make your MOM happy, your a good son thinking of your MOM like that. Lets see Audiobahn and mothers sounds like a good combination. No harsh feelings I hope but I just could not resist.

Hahaha, I set myself up for that one .

Notladstyle and I actually tested it out. It is one loud ass little woofer, definitely puts out what it's rated at and sounds pretty damn clean to boot! No regrets on picking it up. I just kick myself for being lazy, scared, and too consumed with work to go and install it somewhere.

I miss having a beater for that reason.

Your absolutly correct too, Audiobahn was very good for the first number of years that they were out but they have fell in the toilet these last 4 or 5 years, like I said I have sold them before and they sold great but they are not really worth the retail value they are asking but then again either is Kicker and a lot of other big name car audio lines but people still pay for them so the industry will continue to sell them

I had two of the 12" audiobahns, I got them very cheap brand new... They really can handle the power they say... I had my two hooked up to the 2400 watt class D Power Acoustik Amp.. Maybe not the best subs but they slammed my civic trunk..
