View Full Version : WTB: 1qt Redline Lightweight Shockproof
This is just a shot in the dark. I'd like to add some Shockproof to my gearbox just to see if it might smooth things out a bit ('04 WRX, 5MT).
I haven't been able to find anyone locally who carries a full line of Redline products. Titan in Orlando is the closest place I know of that stocks LW Shockproof.
I haven't had a good excuse to drive to Orlando in a while, and I don't want to pay $10 shipping on a $10 item from another vendor.
I know this isn't a big ticket item, but does anyone have an extra quart of Lightweight Shockproof that I could buy?

Firstly, thanks for the head's up on Driven Concepts. I'm not too far from there, but I never knew the place existed. I'll have to stop by there soon.
There's nothing really wrong with the trans, I just want to experiment a bit with the fluid to see if it's possible to get 1st gear to engage more smoothly.
Occasionally I'll be completely stopped, I put the clutch to the floor, calmly shift into 1st, and it grinds!...it makes me curse loudly. I'd be much happier if it never happened, but maybe that's asking too much from the Subaru 5MT.

My recommendation is to bring it in to Mastro Subaru and do our transmssion service with the Subaru Extra-S fluid. By far the best fluid out on the market for the 5mt. If you don't want to do the transmission service cause you would rather do it yourself, you can bring in your own container and we can sell it to you that way.

one quart of Synchomesh will fix this issue. that shockproof won't do squat.

4 quarts even for the 5mt.

Really? All of my research has steered me away from the Syncromesh (and towards Shockproof).
BoostJunkie, 1st gear has been fickle since I first purchased the car from Mastro 2 years ago, which is why I switched to Redline 75w90NS in the first place. Was there 'Extra-S' already in the trans when I bought it, or would it have been some other juice?

o'rly I research too :) u got a link?
here's one for you, the syncromesh is the effective ingredient in stopping the grind: Bartender: One Scotty's cocktail please. - Transmission (AT/MT) & Driveline - NASIOC (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=920674&highlight=syncromesh)

Alright, fair enough. It's been a while, but I've read that thread before. I wasn't convinced that synchromesh was the most important ingredient, especially when there's an equal amount of Shockproof in the cocktail too.
I've been thinking more along the lines of this:
Different Thought On 5MT Tranny Oil - ClubWRX Forum - Subaru Impreza WRX and STi Community and Forums (http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/showthread.php?t=170753)
I just feel comfortable with Redline as a brand (for no good reason, really). Since the synchromesh isn't properly rated for my trans, I'm trying to avoid it.
If the synth doesn't work out, I'll most likely head to Mastro for the Extra-S.
Thanks for all the input, everyone.

I doubt you bought it with the Extra-S already in it. It most likley had the original fluid in the trans dependeing on the mileage.
I picked up a quart from Driven Concepts today. It's a nice shop.
