Just figured I'd finally introduce myself to the Toyota forum. I've been on TR for a bit on the Ford Forum and previously owned a 1982 Mustang GT. After that took a turn for the worse I considered several options for my next platform. A bit of internet research and I decided an MR2 was the way to go. With a bit of patient waiting, autotrader yielded a black N/A 5-speed with T-tops.

She came with 17"s, dimpled and slotted rotors all the way around, performance shocks and springs, new clutch, and a rebuilt motor. Oh, and the veilside knockoff.

Wondered if there were any experienced owners of MR2s on here just for the sake of knowing who to ask things in the future, and if there were any regular meets of 2s or Toyotas I could come out to for a formal introduction.

So, who else has a deuce?

P.S. I have two Sumitomo HTR Z II 225/45R17s I purchased for the front that I found do not fit. I'd like to get rid of them for $80 a tire if anyone is interested. They've been mounted on rims once, then dismounted and bagged. Never touched the pavement.

It never occurred to me the rear bumper was aftermarket. I don't like it either but I thought the only aftermarket part on the car was the wing. As for my plans they aim a little high. I looked over the 1uzfe swap and most people shoe-horning them in say the engine with transaxle is about 4-5 inches too wide and it requires cutting/fab work to fit. The thought of a mid-engine V8 still intrigued me though so I think I may attempt to find a 1996+ Taurus SHO motor. They're 3.4l V8's that sit transverse to begin with, so I'm hoping it will reduce the amount of fabrication that needs to be done. Yes, I know it's bastardizing both the domestic and the import world, but I was never one to draw lines like that anyway. Regardless the idea is still on the drawing board and quite a ways away from becoming reality. For now I enjoy the fuel economy I get over the Mustang.

I saw that one video with caddy v8 engine. Sounded mean as hell lol. Why not just do 3sgte and go fully built?

A 3sgte swap in all reality would probably be cheaper, more reliable, and faster than the swap I'm thinking of. But I think I'm chasing the dream of something unique-ish. I love the low end torque of a V8 and smooth power curve of N/A engines. While the 2 is no slouch getting on the freeway, I miss coming out of the hole like a bullet out of a gun, at least that's what the torque made it feel like. I'm willing to sacrifice the extra money, the time, some of the handling characteristics, and even a little quickness if I have to just to have that feeling.

Nice MR2. You can also swap a 1MZ V6 and supercharge it.

hey budday. another mr2 owner but currently buildin a 450-500whp 3sgte at this point. hope to be done in like 3-4 months. its a lot of work and a lot of money. these cars arent cheap to build. im not sure about any meets but stay away from the ricers on the causeway. when my car is done i got no problem tryin to start or go to meets.

Nice MR2. You can also swap a 1MZ V6 and supercharge it.

or you can also turbo the v6, some site to reasearch The International MR2 Owners Club (IMOC) (http://www.mr2board.com) and Toyota MR2 Owners Club Message Board™ (http://www.mr2oc.com)

loose the wing, wingless ftw!!!!

the spoiler on the trunk 94+ or whatever looks best to me...if you are gonna do a bastard swap look into the oldsmobile "shortstar" and find a way to adapt the e153 transmission to it...you won't need to turbo it or supercharge it for it to glue you to the seat...

You have a nice MR2. Change to an O.E.M. wing of your preference and buy a rolling chassis for your Dream build. The benefit is, you can keep the love relationship of the MR2 during your build by driving the nice N/A you just picked up.

Trust me... I've owned (3)... check out my gallery for engine pics of my former project.

We also have another viable option for people looking for that low end grunt but want the simplicity and cost effectiveness of a PnP 3S swap.

We are in the early stages of making a supercharger kit for a 3S application. We teamed up with MedPilot from VMax. For now, we are putting together a one-off kit for his track car, but the R&D will go towards putting out a kit for the market.

I don't know what the rules are on this board about vendors...since we aren't one here, i'll refrain from posting much about it :) Head over to mr2oc.com and mr2.com and look us up in the vendor sections over there, MCS.

1MZFE SC'd is from the early days of v6 swaps in the MKII. The 1MZ is the worst candidate, of all the possible V6 engines, to use for a boosted application. You'd be better off looking into a 3vz or 5vz. *Yeah...I know someone's going to bring up Brad Bedell's USCC 1MZ powered car...he'll tell you himself that the 1mz isn't the best for a boosted application, but it was what he had to work with*

^^^Plus the TRD superchargers are hard to find since they were discontinued. You probably only find a used one and even then they are few and far between. G/l

A supercharged application is the only other option I considered, mostly due to easier PnP, less fabrication work, and the fuel economy. Is the supercharger on your beta-kit a centrifugal or a roots/screw?

And yes, I know I need to remove the wing and change the rear bumper. But the cosmetics are second to various repairs and fixes is needs at the moment. I'm only 19 and don't make a bunch so work on a project car moves slowly. Thanks for the suggestions all though. I think I'll get the 94+ wing and tail lights and search for a bumper that compliments the body lines a little more.

Currently, plans are to have it based around a Whipple W140AX

I know I need to remove the wing and change the rear bumper. if you get a new rear bumper i'll get that one off you and modify it a little cuz i like it better than the aero bumper on mine...lol
